Meet USD’s President of Delta Tau Delta, Joe Redmond!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at San Diego chapter.

For the very few that don’t know him, Joe Redmond is an outspoken and humorous leader with skills that can be seen through his role as the current president of his fraternity, Delta Tau Delta. If one thing’s for sure, it’s that nothing Joe does is less than 110%. He’s currently working with other Panhellenic leaders to make positive changes on our campus and improve the Greek stigma. We’re dying to dig deeper and find out more about this go-getting Junior, so let’s take a look at this week’s Campus Celebrity!

Where are you from? “I’m from the Bay Area in Marin County.”

What’s your major? “I’m a Finance major. I plan to eventually become a Financial Analyst for a major bank and hopefully stay in San Diego because of the amazing weather.”

What is your favorite memory at USD? “The day I was initiated into Delt. It allowed me to become an active and opened my world up to new relationships, networking and fun experiences.”

What inspired you to become the president of Delt? What have you already gained from the experience? “When I was a Freshman pledge, one of the older guys said that he saw leadership in me and it’s one of the major reasons why I wanted to take on a leadership position. Last year’s President told me that he saw me as the future President and it gave me the courage to run. I have already gained many new relationships, a higher level of confidence, as well as the opportunity to improve my public speaking skills.”

Tell us a little bit more about your experience working with other Greek leaders to institute some guidelines for the Greek community. “We are trying to raise a lot of awareness about sexual assault to students at USD and the greater community. We want to show that the Greek community cares, so we are requiring that 15% of chapters become trained sexual assault mentors who will attend meetings and become more informed on the issue.”

When you’re not crazy busy, what do you do for fun? “I love to play golf. I love going to the beach and I like to camp. I love Netflix. Suits is my favorite show, hands down, 100%. I’m also a huge 49ers/ Giants fan. My family has season tickets to the Giants so I love getting to go to games when I’m home.”

You spent your last semester studying in Madrid. How was your time in Spain? “I had the time of my life studying in Madrid. One thing that I loved was how relaxed their culture was and how happy everyone was. What made the trip was the people I got to experience it with. Some of my closest friends today were the people I traveled to different cities and countries with on the weekends.”

What was your favorite experience abroad? “When I traveled to Ibiza, Spain. It was my first trip abroad and definitely the rowdiest. It was one of those weekends that my mom will never know about…..”

What’s up with your love life? Any ladies? “I am 100% single and ready to mingle. I’m looking for a sweet, down to earth girl who can make me laugh and deal with my sarcasm and humor!”

How is life back in San Diego? “It’s amazing. I’m 20 years old, I go to a beautiful school, and I get to live on the beach. My parents haven’t even been able to do that, I’m very fortunate.”
