Achieve the Perfect Everyday Look

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at San Diego chapter.

People often compare the art of makeup to that of painting. The body and face being the canvas while the artist is hard at work. Making the style and eloquence match that of the event or circumstance that one will be in attendance for is a must! For daytime occasions and events such as school, meetings, and jobs it’s important to keep it simple. (Less is more right?) Let’s take a closer look on how to achieve the perfect daytime look:

MASCARA

When applying makeup for daytime occasions, always ALWAYS Always start with the eyes by applying mascara. Waterproof works best for special occasions only because it can potentially damage eyelashes. Falsies (Black Drama) by Maybelline is extremely effective with volume as is The Super Sizer by CoverGirl. Use interchangeably to achieve the perfect voluptuous lashes.

EYELINER

Next, apply either black or brown liner right above lashes. Ensure that the waterline is also getting attention; this will blend the lashes with the liner to provide a more natural, bold look. Applying eyeliner to the bottom should be done so sparingly. (Also make sure to pay the waterline attention.) If overdone, it often makes the eye to appear smaller. The NYC waterproof eyeliner pencil is extremely effective in addition to Revlon waterproof liquid liner (available in both black and brown).

EYEBROWS

For those that enjoy a little bit more of a dramatic look, filling in eyebrows can do just the trick. Mac makes Waterproof Brow Gel that works wonders! The bristles resemble a mascara brush. Apply to eyebrows by brushing through them gently for the perfect natural look.

FOUNDATION

Take a small brush (or sponge) and use approximately two drops of liquid foundation to blend the foundation into the skin. Brush onto face in circular motions starting from the top down to ensure that the pores will not be clogged. If interested in full coverage, Mac’s Matchmaster Foundation covers even the most obscene blemishes. For more sheer coverage, using Revlon ColorStay also works very well.

BRONZER, HIGHLIGHTER & BLUSH

Next, apply bronzer in a moon shape starting from right above the temples and down below the cheeks. After doing so take a highlighting powder and apply right below the eyes and slightly above the cheeks. Then, take blush and apply the apples of the cheeks between both the bronzer and highlighting powder. The Matte Bronzing Powder from Mac along with the Soft & Gentle Mineral Skinfinish (highlighter) and the Longwear Blush complement one another nicely.

LIPS

When going out during the day, a nude lip works best for every outfit imaginable. The Japanese Maple lipstick from Mac looks classy and simple; when applied under a clear gloss this will finish off the simple sexy look and will be the frosting on the cake!
