How to Romanticize Finals (Yes, It’s Possible)

Finals usually mean stress, late nights and endless amounts of caffeine. But it does not have to feel like a scene out of a horror movie. With a few small shifts, you can actually make the experience enjoyable. Here are some easy ways to help you romanticize finals and add a little spark of magic to your study routine.

Make Your Study Space Cozy

Turn your desk or dorm corner into a vibe. First, start by ditching the harsh lights. Switch on warm lamps or fairy lights, light a peppermint scented candle and create a playlist that feels like a coffee shop soundtrack. A cozy environment can make long hours of studying feel less draining and more comforting.

Add Seasonal Treats

Finals are the perfect excuse to indulge in your favorite winter flavors. Pick up an apple flavored drink, bake some cinnamon muffins or bring peppermint bark to your study session. If those flavors don’t work then go for a flavor that you love. Pairing work with little seasonal treats creates positive associations and makes study time something you look forward to.

Lean Into Aesthetics

Use colorful pens, cute sticky notes and highlighters to make your notes look more appealing.

Rewriting key concepts in a neat and creative way helps with memory and makes the process more fun. If you are into content creation, document your study session for a TikTok or Instagram post.

Take Mindful Breaks

Breaks are non-negotiable, but instead of aimlessly scrolling, try activities that recharge you. Go for a walk, journal about your progress or watch a quick comfort show (but keep it to one episode).

Right now, I am currently re-watching Stranger Things in anticipation for the final season. Intentional breaks help you feel refreshed without losing momentum. Remember finals are not just about grinding but also about building habits that support your well-being.

Find Community

Studying with friends can ease the pressure. I am lucky enough to have a great group of friends from my club, this makes studying less like a chore. Organize a study group session, join a campus study hall or simply share a late-night snack run. Knowing you are not alone can make finals feel more manageable.

The Takeaway

Romanticizing finals will not erase the exam workload, but it can change how you experience them. By leaning into cozy winter vibes, treating yourself with intention and finding joy in small moments, you can transform finals from a dreaded hurdle into a season of growth and maybe even a little magic.
