Two Ways to Keep Your Natural Hair “Laid” This Winter

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Salisbury chapter.

Okay Naturalista it’s time for wash day but, you don’t know what to do. Have no worries I am here to help.

According to a Twitter poll that I conducted, out of 48 votes, the best product for natural hair is SheaMoisture.

SheaMoisture won with a total of 48%, Cantu came in second with 31%, Carol’s Daughter was in third place with 19%, and last but not least, Aunt Jackie’s Curls & Coils came in fourth place with 2%.

Now if you are natural and you do not want to add heat to your hair you can do a simple twist out by doing a LOC (Leave-In-Conditioner, Oil, and Curl cream or gel). Once you add those products to your hair, you can do a simple two strand twist or flat twist to your hair, but when you are taking the twist out make sure that you add oil to your fingertips.

However, if you are the lazy type and don’t want to deal with your hair on a daily basis you can do a protective style. Protective styles consists of braids and hair extensions.

If one were to use hair extensions, a lace frontal or closure would be better to use so that you do not have to add heat to your leave out. However, you must keep your hair moisturized underneath by spraying leave in conditioner on to the braids or oil to the braids and scalp.

As the Winter is quickly approaching it is important that you keep your hair protected. The harsh and cold weather truly can be damaging to the hair. So whether you use these two ways or some other tips, make sure you take care of your hair and continue to embrace your natural hair.
