This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Salisbury chapter.

Salisbury’s own Substance Dance Team came to slay once again.

With their dynamic demeanors and sophisticated skills, the group created by Alexis Peay and Rachel Obamwoyi presented their dance evolution on May 2nd in Holloway Hall. The mission statement of the dance team is to encourage an atmosphere where, “…everyone can express themselves in their own way, adding their substance to the team.”

Each member displayed their talents in the jam-packed showcase, which included fan favorites such as “Hills” and “Partition”, new performances like “Work” and “Bad and Boujee”, and even a solo performance of “Show Me”, choregraphed and performed by freshman Shardae Bailey. The other choreographers of the night included Substance president TerChrisha Lawrence, Amani Bouyer, Mikayla Edgeworth, Deonya Greene, Chastyn Thomas and Jazmyn Woods.

The event was hosted by Substance’s own Donovan Mack, who kept the crowd amused and engaged with his joyful personality. Even during the intermission, the audience was entertained with exciting Rap and Go-Go hits and even a quick stroll off from the brothers of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. devastating divas of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated.

Before their finale, the team took the time to honor the seniors who would be graduating at the end of this semester, including TerChrisha Lawrence, Amani Bouyer, Shayla Butler, Naomi Jones, Amber Mann, Chantelle McPherson, Sekayi McPherson, Chastyn Thomas, and Destini Tillie. The members were awarded with flowers from their teammates who were sad to see them go. The showcase ended with a powerful routine to “Look But Don’t Touch” by the Empire Cast.

All in all, the Substance dance team came, slayed, and left their audience wanting more.
