Meet SU Dancer Makayla Smith

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Salisbury chapter.

Makayla Smith, 18, is a second semester freshman at SU from Prince George’s County. She is a pre-nursing major with big hopes for her future.

Smith came to Salisbury because she heard about the great nursing program that SU has to offer. As a nurse, she hopes to either become a travel nurse practitioner or a midwife.

Smith loves to dance and has been dancing for 10-11 years. She is currently the captain of SU’s Substance Dance Team and assists with choreographing routines.

When Smith was a senior in high school, she participated in a Maryland state dance convention and achieved the title of an All-State dancer.

On her free time, she loves to watch shows and movies on Netflix, eat, sleep, and watch dance videos. She also loves to go out and have fun with her friends.

Smith says managing her time for school work and extracurricular activities can be a challenge sometimes.

“Any breaks I have, I study. I delete all distractions like social media and stay ahead of all my work so I have time to dance.”

Smith’s dance team, Substance, is having their Spring Showcase on Sunday, March 31 in the Holloway Hall Auditorium. Free admission.
