How to Keep Going When the Going Gets Tough

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Salisbury chapter.

Whether it be finals, roommates, finances or life in general, there’s always something trying to bring you down. But here are some things to keep in mind to go full steam ahead.

  1. Find inspiration: Whether this be in the form of inspirational figures in your life or a goal you’re trying to accomplish, find something to keep you inspired to do better. This can help keep you focused and have something to look forward to when you’re lacking in motivation.
  2. Stay positive: Surround yourself with positive people who will help you get to the finish line. Having a good support group around you will keep negative thoughts away and help you stay more productive.
  3. Learn from your mistakes: If you’ve been working towards something but it just hasn’t been going the way you want it to, then see if there’s something you can change. Sometimes without realizing it, we are the ones standing in our own way.
  4. Take a break: Maybe you need to take a step back and look at the bigger picture. See where this path is taking you and recharge to keep grinding.
  5. Constantly remind yourself: Remind yourself of what you’re trying to accomplish. It can be as creative as making a vision board and putting it somewhere you’ll constantly see. Or you could make it easy and just have sticky notes on your mirror and wall.

Despite all the challenges you may face, you will prevail. It’s important to keep in mind that making excuses and quitting will only set you back further in the long run. Start out small and work your way up to the top of the mountain.
