Actress Marsai Martin Becomes Youngest Ever to Receive a First-Look Deal

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Salisbury chapter.

2019 is already getting off to a great start for, 14-year-old actress, Marsai Martin.

In fact, at her young age, Martin has just became the youngest person to sign a first-look deal with Universal Pictures. Can you believe it?!

According to CNN, as part of her new deal, Martin will develop scripted projects, as well as produce. As of now, it looks like Marsai Martin’s first film will be Step Monster which is set to be a comedy about how a teenage girl adjusts to life with a new step-mother.

With all of this success, however, she’s still a regular teen. In fact, some of her favorite hobbies include directing her shows, singing, writing, and dancing. Furthermore, President of Universal Pictures calls Martin “tremendously talented and says that she will “resonate with all audiences.” Martin is also pumped! She once said in an interview, “I am so excited for the magic I will be able to create and produce with Universal.”

But, this isn’t Martin’s first big break. In fact, she starred in a recurring role on ABC’s comedy Blackish along with famous actors including Tracy Ellis Ross, Anthony Anderson and Yara Shahidi. Martin has also done well with landing national commercial gigs.

Even more recently, Marsai Martin is co-starring with Regina Hall in the upcoming Universal Pictures movie, Little (which is set to premiere April 12, 2019). Martin is reportedly the executive producer for the film as well. Her success in Hollywood has visibly centered around her dedication and energetic nature.

Make sure you check out Little this April to support her first major film lead debut!!

Go Marsai!!!
