It’s Hump Day. Which means we are halfway through the week, halfway to a game weekend, and that much closer to fall break. But instead of longing for the future, how about embracing all that is today? Maybe I’m so happy because I just had a Pumpkin Spice latte with an awesome SMC alum (everyone should go check out the new Starbucks on Eddy – it’s so cute and a perfect study spot!), or maybe it’s because I woke up to the prettiest sunrise ever…but whatever my mood may be, I’ve been thinking that staying positive is the way to get through this super challenging semester. SO. I’ve complied a little list of five reasons to be happy on this October Wednesday:
1) You’re alive. You got up this morning, you probably went to class and you probably wished you weren’t in class. But you’ve got the gift of education…of a Saint Mary’s education. You should be smiling. This morning, you got to listen to your genius professor talk about what they’re passionate about or maybe you took a test. I know it sounds crazy, but how fortunate are you? You have the opportunity to get good grades, and that’s more than so many people on this planet right now. Focus on the positive side of that ten-page research paper. I know it’s hard, but if you really think about it, we are SO lucky!
2) It’s absolutely gorgeous outside. As I’m writing this, I’m looking out my room window at the dome in the near distance glistening in the sun. Lake Marian seems to be home to every goose in Indiana and the trees are blowing in the wind. God really made today beautiful. It may be 57 degrees, but we’ll be praying for that when it’s negative whatever.
3) Tomorrow is Thursday. Which means one more day until Friday. If you’re of age, Thursday means Brothers -> Feve. And that within itself is reason enough to be happy.
4) Class rings are coming in. Which means gorgeous Instagrams, and smiling, happy Juniors. If you’re an underclassmen, start taking notes now because getting your ring is just around the corner! (and the competition for the prettiest Instagram starts now…)
5) One Direction came out with a new song. It’s called Fireproof and it’s perfect. Seriously. It’s such a jam. One Direction = happiness.
