To all Saint Mary’s women on our first day of classes,
May our faces glow not because of the makeup we (aren’t) wearing (#AllGirlsSchool…), but because we are all so happy that our longest walk to class is no more than five minutes.
May our Nike shorts keep us cool and the air conditioning in Madeleva keep our ponytails straight.
May the Spes café be abundant with Starbucks brews between gen-ed classes while we still have the munch money and may our professors understand that we need to hightail it out of class as soon as the clock says, “X:50” because the dining hall stampede is a real thing.
May we have self-control when checking out our books at the Shaheen bookstore. Why is this necessary? Because the mason jar SMC tumblrs and Underarmour french cross yoga pants are too cute to pass up, but most credit cards think otherwise.
May we take advantage of the beautiful weather and take runs down The Avenue between classes, before the weather becomes unbearable and sitting on our self-assembled futons with our roomies watching Friends becomes favorable. #GoBelles.
May we get to know our professors and understand why Saint Mary’s hires so many legends. Again, Go Belles.
May we take as many first day of school and roomie pictures as we want, because there won’t be many more times when we are this excited about going to class. Yay sylly week!
May we come prepared with our Lilly planners and syllabi; taking note in advance of all the Fever Thursdays we WON’T be able attend. Responsibility is key.
May we giggle at the fact that we all dressed up today because we know tomorrow it will be yoga pants and Irish baseball caps forever.
May we not loathe Notre Dame for not starting class until tomorrow, but rather embrace it and party with them anyways.
May the Freshmen smile because this is the start of the best 4 years any girl could ask for, may the Sophomores provide advice to the freshmen and feel cool because they can finally master the ResNet test (just remember: all of the above and “webmail”), may the Juniors bond over coffee with their roomies because we’ve heard it’s necessary in order to balance senior comp planning and 21st birthday celebrations, and may the Seniors not cry just yet and embrace all that is their last first day of school and not have too much trouble trying to find a parking spot on campus.
And may we know that the LeMans chapel is just down the hall and always a peaceful place to reflect and thank God for the school we get to call home.
Also, it has air conditioning…
