8 Activities to Do Over Spring Break

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Saint Mary's chapter.

If you’re like me and you have no plans for spring break, you might be wondering what to do with an entire week of free time. Here are a few activities that you can do alone or with your family that will keep you busy and entertained over your spring break

1. Go to the movies

Since the Oscars were this past week, you could spend some of your spring break watching some of the best movies from this past year such as Dunkirk, the Shape of Water, or Coco. There are also plenty of new movies in theaters you could go see such as Black Panther, A Wrinkle in Time, or Red Sparrow.

2. Binge on a TV show

Any streaming service such as Netflix, Amazon Prime, or Hulu have plenty of shows worthy of binging on. Some of my personal favorites are Friends and The Office on Netflix as well as the Marvelous Mrs. Maisel on Amazon Prime. Whether you choose to watch one of these or another show, binging on a bit of TV is a great way to relax and enjoy your Spring Break.

3. Read a book.

If you have a lot of extra time on your hands, read a book. Take the week to work your way through a book that everyone has told you to read or one that is on your own “Must Read” list. For example, I will be spending some of my break reading the book Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail by Cheryl Strayed.

4. Go on a day trip.

If you aren’t traveling anywhere for spring break, there are plenty of places that probably aren’t far away from where you live that you could take a day trip to. For example, if you live near a city like Chicago or Indianapolis, you could go downtown and use the day to visit a museum, try new restaurants, or shop. If you don’t live near a city, you might live near a park or hiking trails. You could spend the day in nature, if the weather permits.

5. Go shopping.

If you are anything like me, you might spend breaks wandering around stores and looking for deals. If you don’t have a ton of money to spend on new things, but still like to shop you could try only shopping the winter clearance or thrift stores.

6. Visit Family or Friends that are still in school.

During school, it can be difficult to find time to visit family and friends that aren’t close to your school. So take the week to go visit the people that you love.

7. Take pictures.

With the amazing cameras that smartphones have, you don’t need a professional grade camera to take beautiful pictures. Whether you photograph your favorite places in your hometown or take some beautiful selfies, you can have a lot of fun taking pictures.

8. Sleep and recuperate.

You are in college. So take the week to relax and catch up on your sleep. You deserve a break!
