7 Reasons Halloween Was The Best Day of Your Childhood

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Saint Mary's chapter.
  1. The costume parade The best way to show off your $50 Party City costume to all of your classmates and their parents was the highly anticipated all-school costume parade. When else could you showcase your super unique Hannah Montana costume to the entire school? You knew everyone was so jealous of your blonde wig and plastic microphone.

  2. Reading scary stories during class time There was nothing better than your teacher ditching the lesson plan to read scary stories to your class on Halloween. Who cares if you slept with the light on for the next month? You’d take Goosebumps over geometry any day of the week.

  3. The Halloween party Let’s be real, besides trick-or-treating, this was the best part about Halloween. You got to play fun party games, listen to ghost stories, watch Halloween movies, and eat even more candy and sweets. If you were lucky, you even got to hangout with your mom for a little bit while she helped with the party. How much better could it get?

  4. Listening to Halloween songs on repeat Who knew you liked Monster Mash and Thriller so much? You actually didn’t, but since you only heard them one day out of the year, you just rolled with it. Besides, it hyped you up to go trick-or-treat in subzero temperatures.

  5. Wearing your costume all day You got to dress up as your favorite character for an entire day, and not a single soul could tell you that you couldn’t. You fought your parents tooth-and-nail and refused to put a jacket on for trick-or-treating, even though it was 30 degrees outside with windchill. It was the one day out of the year that the whole world could admire your phenomenal costume choice. Hypothermia? Never heard of it.

  6. Gorging yourself on candy after a long, hard day of trick-or-treating After filling up an entire pillowcase full of candy, you gleefully stuffed as much candy into your mouth as humanly possible. You may have gotten extremely sick later, but it was all worth it. Besides, you didn’t want your dad dipping into your hard-earned candy stash.

7. Ending the day with Halloween movies There was only one proper way to end the best day of the year, and that was to curl up with some hot chocolate and Halloween movies, fighting off the mounting regret and stomachache post candy-binge. But hey, a little Hocus Pocus, Halloweentown, and Pepto Bismol always seemed to be an adequate cure.
