Trends Spotted This Syllabus Week

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Sacred Heart chapter.

After a long winter break, school is back in session and the spring semester is here!  The first week of the semester is always the most anticipated, mainly because syllabus week offers tons of opportunities to hang out with your friends before the stress of classes piles up. During syllabus week, these were the five trends that all the girls here at SHU seemed to ~*werk*~.

1. Chokers

Chokers have recently become a staple in every college girl’s wardrobe. They come in all fabrics, designs, and colors, and are a great way to complete any outfit.  Girls have paired chokers with many different outfits, from workout to formal attire.  The most popular chokers seen on campus include black velvet chokers and chokers made from gold or silver chains, which can make any look stand out.  Chokers may have been off the style radar for a while, but they aren’t going anywhere for now!

2. Over the Knee Boots

Celebrities such as Bella Hadid and Kendall Jenner have been rocking over the knee boots for months, and the girls here at Sacred Heart have surely caught onto this trend!  Over the knee boots look modern and chic and are able to be worn during the day or night, and vary in size and color.  Girls on campus are often seen wearing black velvet over the knee boots casually, with jeans or even a sweater dress.  Some are becoming more daring, as beige velvet boots and boots with chunky heels have also been spotted. There is definitely a style for everyone, and these boots will give you the ultimate cool girl vibe.

3. Lace Up… Everything!

Lace up detailing has been one of the most popular trends seen on the Sacred Heart campus.  Whether the lacing be included in a fitted bodysuit, a pair of shoes, or a bag, girls all over campus are rocking this trend. This is actually a trend that has been revived from the 70s and has been seen on multiple runways in 2016.  It’s a statement that can be added to any look!  Pair lace up tops with a dark lip for some edge, or neutral, dewy makeup for something more feminine. Either way, lace up detailing is a great addition to any girl’s closet.

4. Cold Shoulder Sweaters

When you think of sweaters, you usually think of a chai latte, your couch, and some Grey’s Anatomy.  Basically, the epitome of comfort.  However, these sweaters are not that.  Cold shoulder sweaters have been spotted all over campus and come in a variety of styles. These tops flatter every body shape and can be worn with leggings and moccasins, or over a skirt for a more sophisticated look.  They can also be layered over a bralette!  Minimalist, comfy, and effortlessly chic; how can you not own one of these sweaters?!

5. Blanket Scarves

Probably the most versatile piece in any girl’s wardrobe, a blanket scarf can be worn as a shawl, a basic scarf or even a poncho! Their size and fabric make any look instantly cozy. Add a colorful blanket scarf to a basic outfit for a pop of color, or play with the scarf to create a unique poncho silhouette!  The possibilities are endless with this accessory, and need to be a closet essential. They can change your whole look—for the better!

The girls here at SHU do not mess around when it comes to fashion. Every girl embraces their inner fashionista as they walk to class, and we at Her Campus wouldn’t have it any other way. Keep rocking these trends, ladies!
