Top 6 Vegan Halloween Treats

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Sacred Heart chapter.

This is not a trick! These vegan treats are for anyone who is looking for tasty alternatives, or has any kind of candy allergy. Halloween is always a time to treat yourself but for those who have certain dietary needs, it can be tricky! If you are just bored of usually candy or looking to knock on the cruelty free door, these 6 treats inspired by The Vegan Zombie should be on your Halloween hunt this year!

1. Halloween Chocolate Bars by Enjoy Life

There are two kinds of Halloween themed vegan candy bar packages. One is in a purple packaging with a bat on it and the other is green packaging with a pumpkin on it. Each of the 18 candy bars are individually wrapped witch is great if you plan on passing them out to trick-or-treaters. Despite their different packaging, both the styles have the same great contents and are a tasty chocolate alternative for anyone. They are milk, soy and nut free, non GMO and gluten free. I have been enjoying the various Enjoy Life snacks and they are perfect for anyone looking for a candy that works around their food allergy or dietary need.

2. Coconut Candy Bar by Ocho

Personally, I may just be the biggest coconut and dark chocolate combo fan in the world. Now that I found a great vegan alternative, I am even more in love. The classic Almond joy inspired treat is everything but the almond. The delicious organ chocolate treats can be bought on a wide scale of sizes. You could purchase a vegan bar just for yourself or buy a bag with 20 bite sized coconut chocolate treats to pass out to trick-or-treaters. For the spooky season, Ocho has mixed together a variety pack of three vegan bitesize chocolate pieces. Inside the Halloween mix is their dark chocolate coconut bites, dark chocolate and caramel bites, and dark chocolate and peanut butter bites. Ocho has so many flavors to choose from ranging from dark carmel to carmel peanut butter. Their various sizes are a plus because who doesn’t want a bit sized pick-me-up?

3. Sun Cups by free2b

These are free from the most common food allergens and are essentially the same as Recees cups but instead of being made out of peanut butter they are made with sunflower butter. I have tried them and I think they are great. Obviously if you compare them to a basic reeses cup they are going to taste different. There are two options for this candy, one is the basic sized cups that are for personal eating and the other is a larger bag with trick-or-treat sized candies. So for anyone with peanut, tree nut, dairy, eggs, soy or gluten allergies, this is a great buy.

4. Pops and Sour Treats by Yum Earth

There are two great products for Halloween. The first is the organic pops which come in a variety of flavors and there is 50 to a bag. The second is the sour beans, which mimic that of sour patch kids. There are 10 sour bean individual packaged treats per party bag. I have had their other gummy products and I personally think they have the same texture at the 90’s Scooby-Doo snacks which is basically code word for amazing! Yum Earth makes a lot of candies and treats but some are not vegan so if you are specifically looking for vegan treats just be sure to read the ingredients. Both of these products are vegan, and the main focus of the company is to make healthy natural sweets from basic ingredients which is super important for

5. Mini peanut butter cups by Justin’s

For the mini peanut butter cup lover, Justin’s is the way to go. Justin’s has come a long way with their brand and I am super excited to hear they now offer mini peanut butter cups. There is a dark chocolate version which is vegan and they offer other flavors which are not vegan but are definitely better than a basic peanut butter cup. They are a great treat to pass out to trick-or-treaters since they all are individually wrapped.

6. Dark chocolate peanut butter cups by Unreal

The unbelievable taste is why this brand is called Unreal. There are so many flavors for you to enjoy these vegan treats that one is bound to tickle your fancy. Their variety of treats are not all going to be individually wrapped but definitely check them out since a box comes with 20 treats! There is a halloween edition box of crispy peanut butter cups, but they also offer dark chocolate peanut butter cups and almond butter cups. Unreal also offers an M&M like candy. The dark chocolate crispy gems and dark chocolate peanut gems are also great options to satisfy one’s sweet tooth. The ingredients are fair trade ingredients, gluten free, non GMO, nothing artificial and all in all awesome!

While this top 6 list is geared towards the companies who purposely make candies with vegan and dietary needs in mind, there are also companies who make vegan candy which can be found almost anywhere. Here are some candies that, according to PETA, are surprisingly vegan: Airheads, Atomic Fireballs, Big League Chew, Bottle Caps, Brach’s Lemon Drops, Brach’s Root Beer Barrels, Charms Blow Pops, Chick-O-Stick, Cocomel’s, Cry Baby, DOTS, Dum Dums, Fun Dip, Hubba Bubba, Jolly Rancher Hard Candy and Lollipops, Jujubes, Jujyfruits, Mamba, Mary Jane, Mary Jane Peanut Butter Kisses, Nerds , Now & Later, Pixy Stix, Red Vines, Skittles, Smarties, Sour Patch Kids, Super Bubble, Surf Sweets Gummies, SweeTARTS, Twizzlers and last but not least, Zotz.
