It’s that time of year again and the dreaded syllabus week is upon us. Syllabus week can be both a blessing and a curse. However, more often then not, syllabus week is the week to break all your “new semester resolutions” right before plunging you into a full course load’s worth of work and stress. As you try your hardest to start yourself on the right track for the new semester, these are some of the struggles of syllabus week that we know are all too unavoidable.

The face you make while pretending not to be overwhelmed by the eight pages of assignments that are outlined in the syllabus.

Because let’s face it, you’re even stressing over your future stress.

You can hardly even remember what courses you are taking, never mind remembering the assignments you have to complete the first week.

Professors are just asking too much of you at this point.

Just looking at your daily planner filling up pains you inside.

I guess it’s about that time to add extra “me time” into my planner.

Thinking about all that free time over break you should have taken advantage of…

A month full of Netflix, sleep, and an empty planner: the dream.

The social anxiety you feel during class introductions is all too real.

Breathe. Okay, there are too many attractive people in this class… I can’t do this. Be interesting. Be yourself. Wait, I can’t be THAT interesting if I’m being myself. Don’t stutter. I need to drop this class right now. BREATHE.

The inner conflict you have every morning between wanting to dress to impress any potential cute classmates…or dressing in clothes that actually keep you warm in 10 degree weather.

Rory Gilmore is my spirit animal. Then again, Rory Gilmore is probably everyone’s spirit animal.

Your bank account is suffering from the purchasing of new and required textbooks.

But at least you and your books will suffer together.

If you’re a part of the 90% of people who didn’t go somewhere sunny and 75 over the break, well, it’s probably time to be breaking out the bronzer to look acceptable in public again.

No one has to know you didn’t go tanning in the Caribbean. That’ll be our secret.

The dreaded last minute classroom changes on Webadvisor that leave you lost and in the wrong classroom.

The best part about this sitch by far is hearing “she must be a freshman ” and “wow, that’s embarrassing” whispered simultaneously as you subtly sprint out of the room.

But once the true struggles of syllabus week have come to an end, you are finally able to celebrate the end of the best/worst week of the new semester! Just one week to get through until you fall into a new routine, have time to start a new Netflix series, and let it sink in that you are back together with your best friends for another four months!

Bring on the new semester!
