Ah yes, the ‘S’ word, senior. This is a word my friends and I have been viciously trying to avoid since our Junior spring semester ended. It was a reality we did not want to face, as it means our four years of living together and running around Connecticut together would come to an end. As the fall semester has gone by, we have once in a while brought up the ‘S’ word, and every time one of us immediately ended the conversation. But now, as my last fall semester comes to an end, the reality of graduating is getting more and more real.

As I’m getting ready for the holidays, I just know that every family member is going to say “one semester done, one more to go before the real world hits, what are you going to do?” and I just know that it’s something I have to start to think about. This past semester, graduating is not something that felt real at all. There were a couple of times where it hit me, like my last first day of classes, senior pub nights, and the career fair, but other than that, it’s something I tend to not think about. It’s scary to think in 6 more months, I will have my diploma in hand and will be moving onto a new chapter in my life.

This fall semester went by so fast and thinking about the upcoming semester, I hope it slows down a bit. As much as I’m ready to not have to deal with classes and professors and projects and everything related to the stress of school, I’m not ready to end this routine I have known from the age of 5: going to school in August/September till May/June and having three months off before it starts all over again. It is the official end of my “childhood” and means that now I will have more responsibilities and while that is exciting, it is also scary. As nervous as I am, I cannot wait to see what my last six months at Sacred Heart will bring me and I will leave here with the best friends and memories.
