The Dos and Don’ts of Spring Break

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Sacred Heart chapter.

Spring break is right around the corner and let’s face it, we can’t wait. To ensure that your fun doesn’t turn into The Hangover Part 4, I put together some of my tried and true rules to maximize your adventure!

Do: HYDRATE. No one is going to have a good time if you’re in the hospital with dehydration. Icy, cold, margaritas might feel refreshing at first but if you don’t sip some H20 in between, you’ll be passed out before 6pm.

Don’t: Forget sun protection. Remember being a little kid and hating when your mom lathered you up with SPF 75+ at the beach? She had the right idea. Your super cute new clothes won’t look so awesome with your lobster-red glow. Floppy hats are in, pack one!

Do: Have a buddy. So often there are horror stories of girls (and guys) going missing on spring break. Don’t be one of them. Never go anywhere alone.

Don’t: Live by the mentality, “what happens on spring break stays on spring break.” If it’s photographed or recorded, it will absolutely come back to haunt you. That wet t-shirt contest might seem like a good idea at the time but trust me, your dignity is worth more than that.

Do: Have a budget. Use cash and keep it in a safe. When it’s spent, you’re cut off. It can be so easy to leave a tab open at the bar. You know what’s not easy? Asking your parents for money to pay off your $1,000 credit card bill.

Don’t: Forget to have fun! Spring Break is a right of passage for most college students. Get a tan, indulge on overpriced drinks, and enjoy yourself! Just be smart and leave the drama at home. You’ll thank yourself for it.
