It’s pretty universal to say nobody expected to be in college during a global pandemic. An entire year of online learning has been quite the experience.. for some, it’s been the only experience they’ve had over the past year. Needless to say, we are all itching to spend some quality time with friends and family in a “normal” way. With the warm weather starting to peak, here are a few COVID-friendly ways to enjoy some quality time with your inner circle.

Have A Picnic

Time to bring out the charcuterie board skills you developed during the first month of quarantine! There isn’t much that compares to quality time outdoors with loved ones, and a picnic is the ultimate way to enjoy the start of sunshine season. Whether you choose to do this with your close friends, family, or significant other, the memories will be priceless. This activity can be done in the comfort of your backyard or give you a reason to explore a new place. All you need are a few drinks, snacks, and of course, your favorite people. If accessible, I highly recommend bringing a polaroid camera to capture the moments.

Outdoor Study Session

There is just something so relaxing about getting homework done outside. I’m not sure if it’s the fresh air or the warmth of the sunshine, but I can’t think of a better way to unload on homework. Pro tip: if you love getting a good tan but are swamped with assignments, this is a perfect way to achieve that pre-summer glow. Time to break out the iced coffee, study playlist (10/10 recommend “oatmilk lattes in the mountains” on Spotify), and enjoy the sun rays.

Take A Walk

Sometimes a digital break is all you need, especially when majority of your time is spent doing virtual classes and work. There’s something so humbling about the simplicity of being outside, it’s truly one of the best remedies for relieving stress. So, close the laptop, put on your sneakers, and go for a walk around your neighborhood with a roommate! If you’re living at home, see if a family member wants to join. You’ll be doing both yourself and them a favor, as this is an amazing boost for both your physical and mental health.

Outdoor Morning Yoga

I highly encourage everyone to do a yoga class outdoors before starting your day. Whether you choose to do it at sunrise or after your cup of coffee is entirely up to you, but it is such a refreshing boost to start your day. If you enjoy having some quality time connecting with your inner self, then this is definitely an activity for you. There are endless yoga classes that are stream-able on YouTube, Instagram, and a variety of mobile apps. This would be the ultimate addition to your morning routine!
