We have been having quite the winter between all of the storms and all of the snowfall in Connecticut this year. Spring is in sight, but in the meantime, try some of these winter themed cocktails, post hitting the slopes! (if you’re legally permitted of course). 

 

Snowball Brandy Cocktail Recipe

Ingredients:

-2 ounces brandy
-1/2 ounce simple syrup
-Optional: 1​ egg white
-2 ounces ginger ale (or enough to fill)


Steps to Make It:
1. Gather the ingredients
2. In a cocktail shaker filled with ice, pour the brandy, simple syrup, and egg white.
3. Shake vigorously to ensure the egg is properly mixed.
4. Strain into a collins glass filled with fresh ice.
5. Top with ginger ale.
6. Serve and enjoy!

Tanqueray Almond Cocktail

Ingredients:
-1 ounce gin (Tanqueray London Dry Gin)
-1/2 ounce amaretto
-Dash bitters
-Splash sour mix
-Garnish: maraschino cherries


Steps to Make It:
-Gather the ingredients.
-In a snifter with ice, pour the gin, amaretto, and bitters.
-Top with a splash of sour mix.
-Garnish with maraschino cherries.
-Serve and enjoy!

Matt Preston’s Pear and Rosemary Gin Fizz Recipe

Ingredients:
  –  ¼ cup (60ml) gin
  – ½ cup (125ml) chilled pear juice
  –  Juice of 1 lemon, plus lemon slices, to serve
  –  1 rosemary sprig
  – ¼ cup (60ml) chilled soda water


Method:
Loosely fill the glass with ice, then pour over the gin and the pear juice. Add a good squeeze of lemon and swizzle enthusiastically with the rosemary sprig (cut stem down) and leave in the glass. Add a few slices of lemon and top with soda just before serving.

Warm Winter Wine

Ingredients: 
   – 1 bottle red wine (750 ml)
   – ¼ cup (55g) caster sugar
   – 1 cinnamon quill
   – 4 cloves
   – 1 star anise
   – 1 long strip orange rind
   – Lemon slices to serve (optional)


Method:
Place the wine and sugar in a saucepan over low heat and stir to dissolve. Add all of the remaining ingredients (except the lemon slices) to the saucepan, increase the heat to medium-low, and allow to simmer for 10 minutes. Strain the mulled wine and serve in heatproof glasses with the lemon slices.

Beer Americano

Ingredients:

 –   30 ml Campari
 –   30 ml Cinzano Rosso
 –   Pale Ale of your choosing


Method:
1. Pour 1 part Campari and 1 part Cinzano Rosso into a beer mug filled with ice.
2. Pour Pale Ale into a shaker and shake until a velvety foam mixture has formed.
3. Pour foam into the glass and stir.

My name is Nicola Paerg. I am a senior at Sacred Heart University pursuing a degree in Communications-Advertising and PR, and minor in Management studies. Throughout my career as a SHU student, I have written for our school newspaper for the Arts&Entertainment section, then the following year I served as the Advertising manager for the publication. Additionally I interned with our D1 Men's Ice Hockey team, serving as an intermissions event coordinator and game advertiser. Following that I worked as a social media intern for the club CrossFit team, while actively competing as a team member.
