Who better than the Merritt Canteen as this week’s Campus Celebrity? Better known as simply “Merritt,” this fast food joint is home to Sacred Heart University students every weekend (OK, and every Tuesday) once the clock strikes 1:00 AM. The Merritt is open until 3 AM on Fridays and Saturdays, so the line is typically wrapped around the entire building anytime after midnight. You’ll even find a police escort stationed in the back corner to keep the craziness in check– that says something. A Campus Celebrity is always someone who gives back to the community, so it’s only fitting that we honor the Merritt Canteen for helping us survive our college career.
The Merritt Canteen has made a guest appearance on Food Network’s hit TV show “Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives” which only adds to its local fame. Below is an actual music video dedicated to the Merritt Canteen (and it’s hilarious). Please watch. You won’t be disappointed.
Their menu has just about anything you could possibly want at 2 AM. Their mac n’ cheese bites are our personal favorite.
And most importantly, the Merritt Canteen accepts the SHU card! Yes, you can actually feast at no cost to yourself (sorry Mom and Dad).
