9 Reasons Why Spooky Season is the Best Season

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Sacred Heart chapter.

The time has come. You find yourself getting a little chilly in your short-sleeved shirt. You hear a crunch under your shoes. It’s the leaves falling from the trees. You suddenly realize it’s not September anymore. Welcome Spooky Season, we’ve been awaiting your arrival. Here’s why.

1. It’s officially sweatshirt weather.

Personally, I feel that fall weather is superior to all the other seasons because of SWEATSHIRTS. Especially that one oversized sweatshirt that you wear at home and on days when you just don’t care, even though it’s probably three sizes too big. I love not being able to tell if I have a body underneath it! Am I 50 pounds? Am I 500 pounds? The world may never know.

2. The air is CRISP crisp.

You step outside (in your sweatshirt, may I add) and the cool and crisp air just hits you. You BREATHE for what feels like the first time in months. There’s nothing like it.

3. The clothes.

Everyone thinks that summer is the time to become a ~fashionista~. False. Fall is the time to become a style icon (if you choose) and to really feel yourself in whatever clothes you choose to put on. The colors and styles are super flattering which means that everyone looks good during spooky season. Cardigans? Yes please. Heeled booties with rolled jeans? Sign me up. Color block sweaters with a cute skirt? Absolutely. The options are endless!

4. Everything feels ~warm~.

Not even limiting it to physical warmth, but like everything smells warm and there’s just a little something extra about fall that makes it so comforting. It might be the fuzzy socks you’ve been waiting to break out since February. It could be the switch over from iced to hot coffee. Or it could even be the cinnamon smell that you get smacked in the face with when you go into any Michael’s store. There’s something about fall that just feels oh so cozy.

5. The movies.

Horror movies are not the only movies that can be appreciated during spooky season. There’s nothing like getting the bejeezus scared out of you by a fictional paranormal creature (I know that it’s not everyone’s thing). Examples of lovely spooky season favorites: Hocus Pocus, Twitches, The Haunted Mansion, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Halloweentown, etc. Everyone say it with me: horror movies are not the only Halloween movies.

6. Haunted Houses

Now if you are the kind of person that enjoys being nearly given a heart attack, then spooky season is your time to shine! Not only are there horror movies to fall back on, but think of all the haunted houses! They might make you absolutely freak out and have a full-blown panic attack (long story), but you can’t help but love it. It just feels so ~Halloweenie~ that you have to do it just for the hell of it.

7. Dressing up for Halloween!

This is a totally obvious one, but no matter your age, it’s always fun dressing up for Halloween! Whether you do a couple costume with your SO, a group costume with your BFFs, or a solo costume, it’s your time to get creative! Go funny, sexy, cute, basic, unique, or whatever you want and POP OFF!

8. All of the Halloween candy.

You may be too old to go trick-or-treating, but it doesn’t mean you’re too old to buy Halloween candy! All of the variety packs come in handy when you’re in the mood for every single Hershey’s candy instead of just a chocolate bar or if you’re a secret candy corn addict and this is the only season that it’s appropriate to show your true colors.

9. Spooky Season is just the beginning.

Fall is the best season, not only because of all of the previously mentioned reasons, BUT it is also a great lead up into THANKSGIVING/CHRISTMAS! These three seasons combine to form the Holy Trinity of holidays and everyone knows the second it hits October 1st, it’s officially HallowThanksMas. So Happy Halloween, Happy Thanksgiving, and Merry Christmas to you all!

Author’s Note: I didn’t include Pumpkin Spice Lattes on the list for a reason. They’re kind of gross. That’ll be all.
