- Emma by Jane Austen
A classic is always a must, especially Jane Austen. Not only does Emma teach us that sometimes meddling isn’t always the best thing to do with friends especially relationships. But also maybe our ideals of being the perfect woman are so warped and twisted that sometimes we must figure out ourselves before we start trying to help others. One of the most important relationships besides the ones women have with each other are the ones they have with themselves. Not to mention the amazing cult classic 90s movie Clueless is based on Emma. Just an added bonus to this amazing novel!
- Charmed Thirds by Megan McCafferty
If you need a relatable character, this is the book for you! It is the third book in a five book series but good news, you don’t need to start from the beginning to get totally hooked on the feisty confused angst ridden protagonist, Jessica Darling. Reading about her out of control life is even jucier than watching the Kardashians. It is set during her college years at Columbia and chronicles the continual ups and downs that come with college life. By far Charmed Thirds is one of the most honest portrayals of a young woman trying to navigate her way through college, life, relationships, and figuring out the future.
- Saving June by Hannah Harrington
Saving June is a coming of age tale that not only yanks and severely tugs at our heart strings but captivates us. Harper the protagonist leads us on a cross country road trip to give her sister June the respect she deserves in laying her ashes to rest in California. She does something selfless for a sister that she realizes she will never entirely know. The road trip isn’t only so Harper can somehow get closer to her sister but one in which she truly finds herself. This novel teaches us about loss, and grief and the complicated relationships between sisters and ourselves.
