10 Things Every Student Will Miss About SHU This Summer

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Sacred Heart chapter.

1. Big Red

Seeing Big Red on campus is always a treat. He can be spotted at any campus wide and sometimes even just walking around campus sharing his school spirit. Big Red makes every student’s day that much better by welcoming them with a high five, a hug, or even a cool dance! His face will definitely be missed by every pioneer this summer!

2. Outtakes

Let’s face it: as expensive as Outtakes can be, you love the convenience of them having almost everything you could want. Whether it’s Ben and Jerry’s ice cream or one of many types of candy they have, they got it all! Every coffee loving student is going to miss getting 50-cent refills this summer!

3. Bingo Nights!

Even though winning at Bingo seems nearly impossible for about 99% of us, the excitement of playing was a rush! The Edgerton would be full of fellow classmates trying to win the grand prize, ranging anywhere from a television to a FitBit. And let’s not forget T and Addison making every night unforgettable.

4. The Chartwell’s Staff

Speaking of Outtakes, the Chartwell’s staff consists of some of the nicest people on campus. Whether you’re in 63’s hanging out with Marie, Louise, Will or Sandy or at Outtakes buying food from Barbara or Angel, everyone greets you with a smile. And who could forget Maria for Linda’s! We’re going to miss them brightening our days this summer.

5. Linda’s Quesadillas and Pizzas

Personally, this station at Linda’s is my all time favorite. I always have a hard time deciding whether I should get a cheese pizza or a buffalo chicken quesadilla (most of the time I end up getting both!) Whether it’s dinner time or you’re making a Saturday night light night run at 2am, I, as well as many others, are going to miss these yummy treats this summer.

6. The Extra-Curriculars

No matter what you’re into, Sacred Heart clubs and extracurriculars have it all! From Campus Ministry to Shakespeare Club, from Community Service to Arabic Club and from To Write Love on Her Arms to Student Event’s Team, Sacred Heart has something for everyone. The void that these activities leave over the summer is surely missed by every SHU student!

7. SET Activities

I’m sure I can speak for everyone when I say the Student Event’s Team at Sacred Heart is always on point. Their random activities throughout the week are always fun, whether it’s Airbrush Trucker Hats or Bamboo plants. And let’s not forget, they did pull off getting Fetty Wap for our spring concert, even if he was two hours late. Can’t wait to see what SET brings to us next year!

8. Therapy Dogs

School can always be stressful, that’s a fact. But what makes it easier? PUPPIES! When you’re having a stressful day and just need to relax for a little bit, seeing and playing with one of the therapy dogs can be the best medicine. The Wellness Center is genius for bringing these happy and lovable playmates to campus and make the lives of all student’s that much better. We hope you fluffy doggies have the best summer ever – don’t forget about this!

9. The Petillo’s

President and Mrs. Petillo are truly some of the nicest people you will ever meet. Dr. Petillo can be spotted on campus daily, sometimes eating lunch at 63’s and always wearing a different and expressive bow tie. Mrs. Petillo is always on campus too, supporting clubs who are table timing and bringing a smiling face to all students. Thank you both for all that you do for us pioneers – we are sure to miss you yet again for another summer!

10. The Community

The Sacred Heart community is truly remarkable. The students, staff and faculty come together to create a supportive and comfortable atmosphere for everyone who walks through the halls. Whether it’s your favorite professor and your best friend who lives four hours away, the bonds that us pioneers share are always missed every single summer.

It’s been a heck of a year, and we wouldn’t change a thing! Until next time, SHU!
