Why Every Fashionista Should be Following Paige Desorbo

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at RW chapter.

Alright, I know what you’re thinking: my feed is so clogged with influencers just trying to sell me something and it’s getting annoying. I know how you feel, because frankly I agree. Instagram was once a place to share updates about your life and pictures of your lunch, (that realistically no one cared about but you posted anyway) but has now evolved into more of a business platform for influencers to make money. Fashion influencers are sometimes overwhelming and aren’t always very helpful, but as an experienced follower of these influencers, I can say that I have finally found an account that I plan on following forever: @paige_desorbo

I first found Paige on the Bravo reality show, Summer House, and fell in love with her style, both fashion wise and general badass-y way she handles herself. She became known as the house fashionista due to her bold and out of the norm choices, which she always found a way to rock. I started watching the show a few years ago and sort of forgot about it until Paige appeared on an episode of the popular podcast, Call Her Daddy, a few weeks ago. Hearing about her life and the way she sees things reminded me of why I loved her on the show in the first place.

When I looked her up again, I found her Instagram profile, which has been dedicated to finding affordable alternatives to the outfits that you see celebrities wear all over Pinterest, which she calls her “Looks for Less”. Unlike some other fashion influencers, she always tags the shops where she got everything, making it simple to recreate an outfit you really like (without spending a fortune). Usually, her outfits are sourced from shops such as Zara, PrettyLittleThing, Forever21, H&M, ASOS and Princess Polly. All of those stores are places that I and a lot of young women regularly shop at, but her posts make it a lot less overwhelming to navigate through all of the choices that the sites offer. Besides clothing, she also posts about her shoe picks, makeup looks, accessories and even her nail art inspiration. Unlike some popular fashion sites (cough cough, WeWoreWhat), she always gives credit to anyone that she has taken inspiration from.

Paige inspires me because she is always herself and doesn’t apologize for being extra af, something I can really relate to (my friends would back me up on that). She also takes pride in the fact that she was able to build an account and following dedicated to helping the everyday girl always look fire without spending an entire paycheck on an outfit. She is the poster child for being a boss who is responsible for her own money and lifestyle and wouldn’t have it any other way; beyond her influencer duties, she also hosts a podcast with comedian and Summer House co-star, Hannah Berner, called Giggly Squad that I’m also a fan of. On the podcast, she discusses every day topics that anyone can relate to and also has a segment of the show which they refer to as “Front Paige News” (which I think is pretty clever) where she updates her listeners on current happenings within the pop culture world.

On screen and through her podcast it becomes apparent that she is funny and relatable which only adds to my willingness to support her. The moral of the story is if you’re interested in fashion, I highly recommend following her page (and maybe checking out Summer House or Giggly Squad if you’re a reality TV/podcast junkie like me).
