Which Christmas Movie Matches Your Personality?

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Rutgers chapter.

It’s almost the start of the winter holidays, which means sipping a mug of hot cocoa and watching a classic Christmas movie under the covers. Some are funny, heartfelt, and one even ties in another creepy holiday. When these films are featured on Freeform (formally ABC Family), it’s time for celebrating the holidays! Some people prefer comedies, while others want to watch a romantic film. Also, no cuffing partner needed to enjoy these films!

IF YOU HAVE A HUMOROUS PERSONALITY…

If you’re a person who loves to have a good laugh, or pretty much laughs at anything, the film: Elf is for you! An adult elf, named Buddy, who enters the real world in NYC, what could go wrong? This movie is filled with laughs and memorable lines, such as, “I’m a Cotton-headed Ninny Muggins” and “You sit on a throne of lies.” So, grab a plate of Buddy the Elf’s Candy and Pop-Tart Spaghetti and laugh your nutcracker off!

IF YOU HAVE AN IMAGINATIVE PERSONALITY…

If you’re a person who doesn’t believe in growing up and staying a child forever, then The Polar Express is the film to believe in! A little boy who seems to be growing older, but doesn’t necessarily accept the fact Santa Claus is real, comes to realize that he doesn’t want his childhood to end. This movie depicts how children become so excited when it comes to Christmas. If you get over-excited about unwrapping presents on Christmas day, then this movie thrills you just as much!

IF YOU’RE A ROMANTIC (LOVEY-DOVEY)…

If you’re someone who falls in love with fictional characters in film and television shows, this movie is for you! Hopeless romantics find this film touching their hearts. Love Actually depicts people ending up together in different scenarios, suddenly. Someone who becomes invested in these characters’ lives should definitely check this movie out!

IF YOU HAVE A CREATIVE PERSONALITY…

Who doesn’t love The Nightmare Before Christmas?! There’s a holiday crossover between Halloween and Christmas, songs to sing along to, and Tim Burton’s artistic mind throughout. The creativity it took to make this film and each individual character is something that would interest future animators or just the artistic types. There are so many colors and unique characters portrayed in this film. Jack the Skeleton might be the skinniest (and most dead) Santa to ever be!

IF YOU’RE A TRICKSTER…

Ah, the most unpleasant and controlling character of any Christmas film. A classic, How the Grinch Stole Christmas is about a self-loathing, green Grinch who is banished from Whoville, isolates himself from all the Whos, and despises Christmas entirely. But at the end, his faith and love is restored in Christmas! For anyone who likes the characters that aren’t the most loved by the audience, this movie is for you. Someone who likes to joke or prank people would relate to this character. Also, don’t forget about the Grinch’s adorable mutt, Max.

No matter what holiday you celebrate, everyone can enjoy these popular films and wear your cozy pajamas, while doing so. All these films have something in common…not just Christmas, but that everyone gathers together for the holidays and has someone to share it with. Enjoy the holidays with your loved ones and (hopefully) receive all the gifts you’ve asked for. Stay healthy and safe everyone!

I am a junior at Rutgers University. I'm currently a Criminal Justice major and want to pursue a career in law. I enjoy writing independent pieces because it shows the author's personality throughout. I love to cook/bake, go to the gym, read, watch Law and Order: SVU, Grey's Anatomy, crime series, cooking shows, and some other series. I also love art, yoga, listening to music and playing with my dog LuLu. Friends and family are extremely important to me, and I don't think I'd be myself without them!
