The Perfect Fall Date, According to 15 Anonymous Submissions

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Rutgers chapter.

I sent out a survey asking anonymous users to detail their perfect fall date… here are their responses. If you’re searching for some romantic date ideas as the weather gets colder, look no further. (Responses may have been edited for clarity.)

1. “Going ice skating, then going home and putting on matching pajamas to make snickerdoodle cookies. The Nightmare Before Christmas would be playing on the TV as we bake, with a candle burning to top it all off.”

2. “I would describe the perfect fall date as going apple picking wearing matching flannels, jeans and boots. While apple picking, the guy lifts up the girl and she picks an apple from the tree, and then they jump into the pile of leaves on the ground together and laugh. Then, they set up a blanket under an apple tree, with the girl carrying a basket to set up a cute little picnic. The basket contains snacks, sandwiches, and their favorite goodies to eat and enjoy together!”

3. “We’d start off with a quick snack or diet coke run, then going to a pumpkin patch or farm. Bonus points if it has a haunted barn or house or something. We’d do that for a little bit, and then go walk around crunching leaves and talking. If it’s a long date, we’d end it with a movie (halloween-themed for sure) and those Pillsbury holiday shape cookies.”

4. “Apple picking is a fun date. Maybe dinner afterwards too.”

5. “Pumpkin/apple picking, then picnic, then going back and watching horror movies inside all day.”

6. “I think the perfect fall date requires some physical activity. Bike riding and taking a walk together is perfect in accordance with the weather, and it gets you outside to see all the beautiful fall colors. It’s also a nice activity that allows room for fun conversation.”

7. “My perfect fall date would include baking/cooking together! I’m not a huge fan of anything pumpkin/pumpkin spice, but I think baking a warm batch of cookies or making grilled cheese and tomato soup while watching a movie like Clueless would be so cute.”

8. “Going to NYC together. First, we’d go to The Metropolitan Museum of Art, and then we’d take a walk through Central Park to see all the different colored leaves and people watch. We’d listen to live music and maybe even bike around the park too. We would have a picnic on the grass after, eating and cuddling. We’d end the night with ramen for dinner, then take the train back to Jersey– followed by a late night drive listening to music together.”

9. “For a general idea that could be used as a first, third, or 20th date, do something like this: bring pie. Maybe pumpkin pie and whipped cream. Make sure both you and your date like it though, if not find another seasonal pie. If you & your date like coffee, find a LOCAL coffee shop and see about their seasonal specials. Get your coffee, then hop in your car for a drive with some laid back music (R&B, indie, country, etc). Start heading out to the country back roads for a scenic route. If you know a cool spot where you can park, eat, and look at the view, then that’d be perfect. Bonus points if you take a short hike in the area for that element of ‘adventure’. Have some good DEEP conversation about each other while sipping your fave fall hot beverages and eating your favorite pie.”

10. “Halloween movies, pumpkin picking, hay rides, hot chocolate, picnic, dinner, and pumpkin carving.”

11. “If we’re staying in: comfy clothes, my favorite chocolate chip cookie or fudge brownie recipe, ordering in from Popeye’s, and watching cheesy romcoms. If we’re going out: picking pumpkins at Ort Farms (to paint and/or carve together later), visiting their animals, and going to the nearby Cracker Barrel for a cozy dinner.”

12. “An afternoon coffee meet, followed by a haunted house and dinner.”

13. “The date would start by getting some pumpkin cream chai lattes, then we’d head over to a pumpkin patch and pick out the perfect pumpkin. After, we’d head back home to carve the pumpkin, use the remains to bake some pumpkin cookies, and then enjoy the cookies in a candle-lit room while watching Gilmore Girls!”

14. “An outdoor movie would be really cute. I know the weather is getting colder, but I think with the right conditions it could be a cute excuse to cuddle and just watch something romantic <3"

15. “I would describe the perfect fall date as going apple picking wearing matching flannels, jeans and boots. While apple picking, the guy would lift up the girl so she can pick an apple from the top of the tree, and then they jump into a pile of leaves on the ground together and laugh.
