Nothing is better than a bowl of soup in the winter. Or anytime really, but especially in the winter. The feeling of soup in your stomach is like a warm hug.

Homemade soup is top tier. Now just because you’re on campus, you don’t have to miss out on the experience. My roommate and I can determine if the day will go well depending on what soup is being served. Here are the best soups on campus (they rotate on some schedule that I have yet to crack).

Basic Soups to fill the Cracks in your Stomach
Sometimes everything you eat isn’t filling enough. Soup can just flow in and fill in all the empty space left in your stomach. I learned this in Eating Strategies 101 (jk I just came up with this because I always have food on my mind).
Any veggie clear broth that has some pasta inside is usually pretty similar in the flavor department, but the bits of pasta always help perk it up. On most days, there will be a soup like this available in the dining hall. These soups usually tend to be vegetarian or vegan, but regardless of your dietary concerns, these soups are more than edible for everyone. Tomato corn cilantro is one of my favs while summer vegetable comes in a close second.

Mid-tier, Soups that Pair Well
Cream of broccoli, broccoli and cheese, some form of chowder, cream of tomato, cream of chicken, all these soups go so well with a simple sandwich or salad. Making a grilled cheese to go with cream of tomato soup is a classic. Sometimes if I feel bad for not eating my veggies, I’ll put some raw vegetables in the creamy soups. Is that gross? It’s like dressing for my vegetables but better. Also consumption of vegetables is always good for your bod, and if the soup gets a little salty, the veggies help take it back down a notch. These soups are quite filling and pair really well with other foods.

Star of the Show Soups
Chicken. Noodle. Soup. Or chicken and rice soup, it’s basically the same thing, but basically these soups are consumed in massive quantities (I’m not ashamed to admit it). Italian wedding soup is also amazing on its own and can be consumed forever. You have to get at least two bowls if not more. There are many others but these are essentially the rare few that the dining hall blesses on us once in a while. They are also in high demand. Once my friends and I went to the dining hall for dinner during chicken and rice soup day, but not all of us got soup because they ran out that day. It was a sad dinner. So don’t let the soup slip through your fingers!!!

And there you have it. The best soups in the dining hall. Of course if you can never wait, you can always bring some cans of soup and then heat them up, but it’s effort. I hope now that I’ve introduced you to the dining hall soups but haven’t reduced my chances of getting soup during the day.

What can I say. I really like soup.
