Pros and Cons of Visiting Disney World with Your Significant Other

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Rutgers chapter.

Over the most recent spring break, my boyfriend and I decided to celebrate my 20th birthday and our one-year anniversary in the most magical place on Earth. While this was by far the greatest vacation I’ve been on thus far, every trip has its ups and downs. Below I have compiled a list of the cons you can expect when traveling to Disney World with your significant other, and the pros that make the trip worthwhile.

Cons:

  1. Miniscule Arguments due to Stress

(GIPHY)

Airport checks and TSA regulations make traveling anywhere a less than pleasant experience. Once landed, you must notify all loved ones of your safe arrival while scrambling to track down your luggage. Navigating your way around any airport, especially an unfamiliar one, can cause you to feel a little stress and anxiety, potentially creating some tension between you and your significant other.  Additionally, Disney World is not exactly an ideal vacation destination for relaxation. Between scheduling fast passes, waiting in lines for up to 3 hours, and trying to accomplish your entire Disney to-do list, you and your significant other are most likely going to argue at some point, as your irritability levels increase. Fortunately, nobody WANTS to argue in Disney so you will find that the tiffs are easily worked out.

2. Exhaustion and Lack of Intimacy

(GIPHY)

While at Disney World, my boyfriend and I were waking up between 6:30 to 7 am to ensure that we were able to grab breakfast and head to the parks by 9 am when they opened. During the day we were averaging around 20,000 steps in order to see every attraction and hop on every ride we wanted. Staying at the parks for the duration of the fireworks shows kept us from our air-conditioned hotel room until nearly 10:30 pm every night. Returning to our resort exhausted and sweaty made cuddling or any other form of intimacy very unlikely. By the last day, we were both so sore we could barely hold ourselves up.

Pros:

  1. Cute Couple Photos

(GIPHY)

Disney World is home to some of the most magical and aesthetically pleasing attractions, making it a perfect place to take cute couple photos for your Instagram. From a sweet kiss in front of Cinderella’s Castle to a silly mouth-wide-open pic of you both screaming on Expedition Everest, you will have captured some beautiful memories that will last a lifetime.

2. The Adventure and Experience

(GIPHY)

With tons of rides, attractions and shows, a Disney World vacation is an entire adventure. You spend your days riding coasters, belting your heart out at sing-alongs, and soaking up different cultures. Whether or not you have been to Disney World before, each Disney trip is a unique experience so to share that experience with your significant other creates a bond that only you two will have.

3. Lots of Mini Dates

(GIPHY)

Disney World is notorious for its phenomenal cuisine. From worldly meals in Epcot to Belgian waffle breakfast sandwiches and Mickey ice cream bars, there are endless opportunities for mini food dates. For more sophisticated dates, you have the chance to go to character buffets, dress up in your best Hawaiian and lei for the Spirit of Aloha Dinner Show,  or dine at Cinderella’s Royal Table in the castle. For more relaxed dates, visit any quick service dining option or street vendor. No matter what you choose, you’re sure to enjoy it!

As we can see, the pros outweigh the cons when visiting Disney World with your significant other. My advice would be to get lots of rest before the trip, and be aware of what to expect! And most importantly, have fun making memories with your love!
