I’m usually not the type to make new year’s resolutions, but I always have academic goals in the back of my mind. I’m always striving to achieve something new in my academic year, whether it be to advance my career or to improve my skills. I want to always improve myself and am always ready to grow. So here are some of my academic goals for the year:

Continue Making Dean’s List

It was a great feeling when I made Dean’s list for the first time in college. My freshman year was rough for me as I struggled with a few classes I didn’t like. I withdrew with a class and failed one, so I was terrified that it would hurt my GPA and look bad later down the road. However, since making the Dean’s list fall 2018, I’ve continued to make Dean’s list and would want to continue that pattern until I graduate.

Land an Internship

Now is the time in my undergrad career where it’s important that I get an internship. I went on a study abroad experience in the summer to add to my resume, but it meant missing out on internship opportunities. I hope to land an internship in the city and hopefully gain new skills and knowledge. Pro tip: Rutgers resources like Handshake and Career Services are super helpful and have helped me along the way.

Start Things Early

This is quite a simple goal and in theory, should be easy to execute, but alas, procrastination is a hard thing to conquer. During my fall 2018 semester, I was really determined to finish things early since I was taking 18 credits, the most I’ve ever taken before. My worth ethic that semester was really good and I started things with enough time in advance to not stress about it that I was able to allocate time to be involved in other things. I want to get back to this and be the most productive that I can be.

Improve my Management of Deadlines

Last semester was the most involved I’ve ever been. I was juggling my academics with work, my position in Her Campus Rutgers, and my obligations as a Sister in my sorority, Kappa Phi Lambda. As a result, there were many moments where I found it difficult to manage all my responsibilities at once. I found myself forgetting deadlines for assignments and not being able to fulfill my duties in some of my positions. I don’t want to let this become a cycle and will work hard to prevent this from happening again this semester.

My growth as an individual academically so far has allowed me to see that I am capable of more than I thought. I want to continue to grow to see just how much more I am capable of. Pushing yourself can be hard, but having reachable goals makes it more attainable. It’s a new year and with it, I hope come new achievements.
