Updated Published
This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Rutgers chapter.

Music. Whether we are feeling down in the dumps or beyond overjoyed, the common law is to grab your headphones and listen to some feel-good tunes. We all love K-Pop, Taylor Swift, the Jonas Brothers, and Shawn Mendes— however, it’s always a great idea to expand our musical horizons. That is why I have curated a list of 5 Bollywood songs that are perfect for spicing up your spring playlist! If you’re looking for some flavor, look no further than the collection below.

1. What Jhumka? – Jonita Gandhi & Arjit Singh

Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani is a movie that most may consider a one-time watch, but you will notice that this movie did not miss the opportunity to display the best music— whether it is a song you can groove to or just close your eyes and listen. Jonita gives you hugs through her voice and Arijit’s is essentially meditation, but this song makes you feel as though you are in a SoulCycle spin class. Both singers exhibit power and tenacity, using mezzo di voce and displaying energetic attitudes while carrying the rich chords through the song. What Jhumka? is perfect for when you want to have a solo dance session, and even when you are getting ready for the day, you can move to the beat while picking the perfect spring outfit!

2. Chaleya – Arjit Singh & Shilpa Rao

SRK is a veteran actor, and Arijit Singh’s voice is perfect. When coupled with Shilpa Rao’s velvet notes, you distinguish a symphony of chords between the singers. Chaleya is a groove-worthy song, but it also resonates with the listener. Singh made the music his own while having excellent vocal control, and Rao beautifully flowed between the bass and soprano voice ranges with ease. In this song, Arijit’s voice soothes, and Shilpa sings like she owns the stage, showing the crowd that it’s her jam. Chaleya is a song for getting ready in the mornings, or for your gym playlist while you squeeze in a quick treadmill run.

3. Mahiye Jinna Sohna – Darshan Raval

Darshan Raval has sung various songs, but Mahiye Jinna Sohna specifically speaks to the heart. He mixes feelings of longing and happiness into one song and does a beautiful job with his delivery. Raval exhibits excellent vocal control and emotion in his face and voice. This song is similar to a special present under the Christmas tree, because the notes catch you by surprise in the most magical way possible. Play this when you are in your feels, missing your loved ones or friends— and you will feel like they are with you!

4. Deewaane – Stebin Ben

This man is a KING. He amplifies the notes and pursues a level of excitement, all while maintaining vocal control effortlessly. Stebin Ben’s performance while singing Deewaane is pure magic. He makes you feel like you are part of a huge celebration— whether it is a birthday party or a wedding— and Deewaane is a song worth blasting! When you are on the dance floor or are in desperate need of a mind-blowing Bollywood song for your party playlist, Deewaane is the song for you. Just dance, feel the music, and tune out all of your distractions while you bust a move!

5. Naseeb Se – Vishal Mishra & Payal Dev

This song will leave you in a paradise of thoughtful splendor. Mishra and Dev performed this song superbly, striking a perfect balance between powerful vocals and soothing undertones that support the song’s emotional grab. Payal Dev’s voice resembles water dripping from leaves, and Vishal Mishra’s voice resembles that of a rockstar or pop singer. Both singers focus on delivering a combination of power and smoothness, creating a river of harmony that pleases the listener and brings rich emotions to life.
