Embrace Celebrating Valentines Day in Single-Style

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Rutgers chapter.

Once again it is Valentine’s Day and all the people you know are spending time with their significant others. Are you spending this wonderful day all by yourself? Well don’t worry, I’ve got you covered because I have been there and done that. The whole purpose of this holiday is to not regret being single, instead surrounding yourself with people who love you endlessly. Valentine’s Day is about love, not necessarily only romantic love!  Here are some fun things to do to spice up your holiday:

Have a Movie Marathon

Having a movie marathon either with yourself, family or friends can be a great way to spend your day. Make yourself comfortable with all the cozy blankets and tune into something interesting. You can binge watch any type of movie you like. If romance is not your thing, might as well try mystery or horror movies. Make sure to have your favorite snack with you .

Spa Night

Some people spend their Valentine’s Day with their loved ones whereas others prefer to get some alone time!. You can make your day super relaxed and enjoy every bit of it the way you want. A great way to kick back and relax is to have a spa night all by yourself. Or you could invite some of your friends over if you want to! Grab your favorite face-mask and play a song to set the mood. Trust me, having a spa night can make a difference as you are taking some time to focus on yourself.

Catch up with your close ones

If you are feeling homesick or missing your close friends, this is the best to catch up with them. You can have a Galentine’s party with your friends or you could visit your family instead. You can even plan a trip with them and explore a new place! Either way, you will keep yourself preoccupied and you will not regret being single. You will be surrounded by people who love you and it is a great way to spend Valentine’s day. Love is not just romantic- it’s time to normalize celebrating other types of love!

Treat yourself

If you are into baking, you should definitely check out a new baking recipe. Chocolate-dipped shortbread hearts are one of my go to baking recipes for Valentine’s Day. However, if you do not prefer baking, you can still enjoy it by going to a restaurant or can buy yourself some delicious treats. Support a local bakery, or treat yourself to some very in season Girl Scout cookies!

Go shopping and take advantage of holiday sales

Valentine’s Day is a great opportunity to not only buy gifts for your loved ones but also buy yourself some new stuff. Stores will offer various discounts and coupons so might as well utilize the opportunity.

Valentine’s Day can be quite dreadful for single people. However, that could be changed if you change things up a little bit. There are so many fun activities to do on this beautiful day. Moreover, this is the time where you want to truly discover your interests and all the things you love. After all, what is Valentine’s Day but just another day in February! This is also the time to strengthen your relationships with your friends and family. Remember to not be so hard on yourself and enjoy these little moments.
