5 Things Rutgers Seniors Should Do This Year Before Graduation

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Rutgers chapter.

It seems like just yesterday you were pulling up to your freshman dorm on College Ave with a carload of stuff- but now you’re a senior about to take on the real world. As exciting and scary it may be, you aren’t done just yet girl! Here are five tips to make the most out of your senior year:

Go To Career Fairs

(Source)

As a senior, it’s time to take your first steps towards your future. Rutgers has two career fairs during Fall semester and Spring semester with over 100 employers from various industries. The Career Fair is the perfect time to network with potential employers. Not 100% sure what direction you want to go after graduation? No worries! The Career Fair lets you explore a variety of different industries from fashion to entertainment and what they have to offer.

The Rutgers Career Fair also provides fair prep events, including resume critiques, in the days leading up to the fair. Attending the events can score you a #MegaFastPass that helps you skip the registration line! Check out the link below for more information about the upcoming Career Fair on September 12th and 13th. Revisit Former Professors

If there is a professor that you really got along with or helped you with your studies, don’t hesitate to visit them! Professors love checking in with their past students to see how they’ve been doing. Most professors are invested in their students’ futures and will connect you with labs, internships, and may even write you a letter of recommendation for a grad school or job you’re applying to. Make sure you reestablish and revisit your connections with professors whose classes you really resonated with in order to get ahead before you put on your graduation cap!

Join A Club

Don’t feel like it’s too late to get active in clubs! Joining clubs is a great way to build your resume, network, and socialize. Rutgers has hundreds of clubs and organizations from cultural to academic. You’re bound to find something that interests you. Here are two clubs I’d recommend joining while you still can:

If you are interested in modeling and the fashion industry pop on over to the F.A.C.E. Modeling Club (Fashion. Art. Confidence. Entertainment). No prior modeling experience needed (ig: @rumodelingteam).

Are you an emerging PR professional? PRSSA may be the club for you! Not only is it full of networking events, but a PRSSA membership on your resume will score you brownie points with any PR Agency and make your resume stand out! (ig: @rutgersprssa)

Stay On Top Of Graduation Requirements

(Source)

It’s very easy to fall behind on requirements. Make sure everything is smooth sailing when it comes to graduating by taking advantage of the Rutgers’ resources. Monitor your senior dashboard on Sakai, Degree Navigator, and take a trip to your academic advisor to make sure you’re on track. The last thing you want is your graduation date to approach and find out you won’t actually be graduating this semester. Yikes!

Have Fun!

Graduating college is a huge milestone and something to be celebrated. This will be your last chance to check off your Rucket List! Attend events unique to Rutgers like The Big Chill and King Neptune Knight. Go to events that celebrate your unique culture like BSU’s Unity Day and WISO’s Caribbean Day.

While Senior year can be an emotional rollercoaster, don’t forget to have fun! You have worked tirelessly through seemingly impossible finals, bothersome recitations, boy drama, (killer hangovers), and burned the midnight oil to become the strong, educated woman you are. Your future is bright. Try and keep a positive, fun attitude, and make the best closing out of this chapter of your life. Congratulations!
