4 Healthy Tips To Help You Get Through Finals Week

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Rutgers chapter.

It’s that time of year again! No, I’m not talking about the winter holidays. It’s….FINALS WEEK. Finals week is always a stressful time for students. It has a tendency to put a toll on the body. However, there are things students can do to lessen the stress, and ace the tests. Follow these final week tips, and your week will go from stressful to stress free.

Get plenty of sleep – Getting sleep is probably the best thing you could do. Getting a full night of sleep, every night, allows your body to be fully rested. With a full rested body, you are able to function properly and really focus for finals week. If you do not get enough sleep, that can affect your decision making process. It also affects your concentration. When taking exams, those are two abilities that are imperative for finals week. So do not skip out on sleeping!

Eat breakfast – Breakfast is already the most important meal of the day, that is why it is crucial for students to eat it. When it comes to studying and test taking, it is vital. Studies show that eating breakfast is likely to improve cognition related to memory! Use breakfast as your weapon to kill your exam, because if you do, you will be likely to pull information from your memory that you have been studying with ease!

Make a study schedule – You have your exam schedule, so why not plan out exactly when you are going to study for each exam? Making a schedule will keep you organized and keep you going throughout the week. By making a schedule, you can put some free time at the end of each day as motivation for the hours you set aside to study. Why is this a healthy tip? Because, by knowing when you are going to be studying and planning your exam week out, you lessen your stress level for this tough week. You will have an easier time studying and taking your exams if you are under less stress. So take the time to sit down and plan out when and what you are going to study. It can only be beneficial for your grades and your health!

Make time to exercise! – Most students will stop exercising when finals start. Even though this may give you more time to study, you’re actually hurting your studying process by not adding some physical activity into the mix. Studying for long periods of time can be very tiring on the body. For students that are studying day after day, they need energy to take part in that routine. Exercise gives your body energy. Regular exercise will keep students going throughout finals week, and the weeks prior in preparation for finals week! So although you think you will be losing energy by exercising during finals week, you will actually be gaining some. So make sure to fit it into your finals week schedule!

Finals week can be a stressful time, but it does not have to be like that this year! As long as you organize your study time and exercise time, and eat breakfast and get full nights of sleep, you should do just fine on your exams. With that in mind, get on your study grind! Happy finals week :)
