I always liked to have a lot of balls in the air. I’ve always been the type of person who was uncomfortable with having too much free time. If I’m not actively working towards something I tend to feel restless and uneasy.

The unfortunate part of liking to keep busy is the fact that I’m…always busy. Because of this, it’s important for me to stay organized or I’ll get stressed out. Here are a few tips that I’ve learned that helped me stay organized.

Use Google Calendar.

Before using Google Calendar I had a really hard time keeping track of what time meetings, classes, and fun events are. I always felt like I was surprised by the day’s events. Now, that I actively use google calendar I’ve been able to make sure that I’m using my time efficiently and am always able to plan events.

Write down all of your homework on a planner.

You aren’t gonna remember to do all of your assignments. Sorry. Instead, save yourself the hassle of rushing through assignments by writing all of your assignments, internship tasks, and other timely activities in a planner.

When you do work start with the most important task first and then trickle down to the least important.

When I was in high school I did homework in order of when it’s due. Don’t get me wrong it’s important to turn in your assignments on time. However, it’s just as important to give your assignments the time it deserves. If something isn’t due tomorrow it’s okay to work on a major assignment even if it’s due later in the week.

Make sure your space is clean.

You know what they say, “messy space messy mind”. If you can’t pay attention it might be because you are in the middle of a messy space. Try to clean your space to eliminate distractions.

Write more than one to-do list.

I know this is extra but I love writing more than one to-do list. I usually write a list of things that need to be done that day in order of importance. Then I write a bonus list (how fun!) of tasks that I’d hope to get done before the day is over.

Before you stop working complete a task that won’t take a lot of time.

Before I stop working for the day I take a second to do a task that shouldn’t take very long. Little tasks have an annoying habit of piling up so to combat this I try to do little things as often as possible.

Don’t go to bed before you answer all of your texts and emails.

Emails are the death of me! Before I go to bed every night I make sure to schedule send emails so I don’t have to worry about it throughout the day.
