There are 54 days until our votes reach that ballot box in November, so the word “midterm” is a hot topic on everyone’s tongue.
In case you missed it: the Republican National Committee (RNC) held it’s first-ever “Republican Midterm Convention” (AKA “Trumpapalooza”) September 8th-September 10th. While it may seem like a long road to November, 54 days is a very short window, so now would be the opportune time to get the President out there and bolster MAGA support.

Late on September 9th, President Trump addressed the large crowd and announced quite a shocking promise: $5,000 dividends to every American adult, with the contingency (because of course, there always is one) that Republicans win the House and Senate come November.
This feels… weird? to say the least…right? That in a time where Americans can’t afford groceries, or gas, he dangles a $5,000 hall pass BUT ONLY if we elect the people that let him do what he wants, who are coincidentally the same reason why so many of us are in this position in the first place.
Basically, he can think of solutions…but only if it comes at the benefit of him.
but like.. why?
Last November’s elections signaled a huge wave of blue votes, and it seems like those attitudes are persisting. His recent approval rating has hit an all time low. According to USA today, in a poll released just a few days ago, only “32% of Americans approved of Trump’s job performance.”
It looks like he and his cabinet are now having doubts about strong MAGA support, and throwing out a $5,000 Hail Mary might be their only option.
what are the odds?
If you heard the news and got excited, you shouldn’t hold your breath to say the least. Trump’s promises are never kept, and what even is the reality of a $5k hand out?
Well first and foremost, the President isn’t the one that makes financial decision, so this in all is a job for Congress, and it is highly unlikely that something like this would even pass, but just to entertain the idea for a minute:
Texas Representative Chip Roy criticized the Presidents comment, saying that if this were to happen, it would cost nearly 1.2 TRILLION (yes with a T) dollars. CBS economists report that this will add even more fuel to inflation, “by fueling a surge in consumer spending, as did the multiple federal stimulus checks during the pandemic.”
With his approval ratings in the dirt, the midterms are a big question mark for the Trump administration and other MAGA backed politicians across the Country. It is not shocking that as we turn the corner to November, he would say something this egregious to pile on the media attention, but the real question is can the President afford to make another promise he can’t keep?
