Spooky season is finally here! With the leaves changing, the weather cooling, and the scent of apples and pumpkin spice in the air, what’s not to love? ‘Tis the season for all things Halloween- including movies! It’s time to celebrate all things scary, spooky, and maybe even mischievous. So grab your popcorn, cider, candy corn, and favorite blanket! It’s time to dive into my Top 10 Favorite Halloween Movies!

Hocus Pocus

Many people can agree that the Halloween season doesn’t truly begin until they’ve seen this film. The Sanderson sisters are some of the best characters of all time, and the film is a campy staple for spooky season. While there are some chilling moments, most of the movie is full of slapstick comedy and humor so it’s perfect for those who aren’t fans of horror!

Favorite Quote: “Oh look. Another glorious morning. Makes me sick!”

The Craft

This cult classic about a group of teenage witches is bound to bring all the creepy vibes of October to fruition while focusing on many other hidden messages throughout (like doing unto others and realizing the grass isn’t always greener on the other side).

Favorite Quote: “Relax it’s only magic. Now, who’s pathetic?”

The Nightmare Before Christmas

Ah, let the arguing begin. Some will say this is a Christmas movie, but I will stand my ground that it’s a Hallo-Christmas movie. It’s perfect for both seasons and serves great music, along with happy and chill vibes that everyone can enjoy! It’s a true masterpiece!

Favorite Quote: “This is Halloween, everybody make a scene!”

Tim Burton’s Corpse Bride

Honestly, this has to be the most underrated movie on the list. It is one of my favorites of all time. It tells the tale of love lost and understanding with music and truly beautiful aesthetics. This is a brilliant one you don’t want to miss.

Favorite Quote: “Die, die, we all pass away. Don’t wear a frown ’cause it’s really okay. You might try and hide, and you might and pray, but we all end up the remains of the day.” (Sounds macabre, but think about it…)

Beetlejuice

A tad morbid, yet still cartoonish and fun, Beetlejuice is an iconic movie. The main plot surrounds a dead couple that are stuck haunting their home without escape. Soon after, a new family moves in and the couple (along with Beetlejuice) attempt to scare them away without success. This movie is perfect for those that have a dark sense of humor and a tinge of interest in the paranormal.

Favorite Quote: “I, myself, am strange and unusual.”

The Addam’s Family

Find yourself wishing to be a part of this creepy and eccentric crew! It will remind you of your own family while still touching on the creep factor and using humor throughout.

Favorite Quote: “Be afraid. Be very afraid.”

Ghostbusters

This beloved 80s movie is truly one for the books. What’s not to love about grown men running around the city of New York chasing adorable green ghosts and a giant marshmallow monster?

Favorite Quote: “He slimed me. I feel so funky.”

Scream

There’s nothing not to love about a film that was made to be satire but wound up being a cult horror movie. It’s truly one of my favorite horror movies and for some reason makes me laugh. Wes Craven is a true horror genius and this is one of his best works in my opinion. Give it a watch when you want something thrilling or a classic slasher flick.

Favorite Quote: “What’s your favorite scary movie?”

Scooby Doo

What’s not to love about this adorable film? Scoob and the gang bring lighthearted tales of mystery and friendship to the whole family.

Favorite Quote: “Jinkies!”

The Shining

A MASTERPIECE. PERIOD. (Also one of my favorites of all time, can you tell I love all things Halloween?)

Stanley Kubrick and Stephen King explore isolation, psychosis, and the paranormal in their screenwriting, and the acting in the film is phenomenal. It keeps me on the edge of my seat every single time I watch it, and I’ve seen it at least 50 times, no joke. It leaves you wanting more and questioning what just happened. I LOVE IT! Favorite Quote: “Redrum” or “Here’s Johnny!”
