Having all online classes has honestly been such a journey. I never had taken an online course before and now I’m taking six. It’s really cool to be apart of Zoom university and I’ve learned a lot about the nuances of taking online courses. Here are a few:
- You’ll constantly wonder how you look on camera.
-
I know! It’s vain but everyone does it. You have to look at the screen all day. What’s the harm in making sure that you look good?
- You’ll get nervous that your microphone will randomly turn on.
-
I’m not saying that you are side-eyeing your latest binge on Netflix…but you totally are. Don’t worry your mic is muted.
- You constantly hope that you aren’t missing something.
-
I have such a hard time focusing during online classes. I don’t zone out often but I will say that I do it enough that I worry that I just missed a crazy important assignment.
- You realize that technology isn’t your professor’s strongest suit…
-
I don’t know about you but I’m having major “I have to teach my teacher how to use a SmartBoard” flashbacks. My professors are brilliant but sometimes their Zoom skills are a little sketchy.
- ….And maybe not yours either.
-
You’re not the one to judge though. Honestly, you had no clue how out of touch you were until your whole life moved online.
- Finding your class link is terrifying.
-
Especially when you are logging on right before class starts. I can never find my zoom link when I need it. It’s crazy.
- You really miss the feeling of being a classroom.
-
There’s something about being in a community of students. I never knew how much I missed the classroom dynamic of having class friends and study buddies.
If I had to put money on it I would guess that Zoom classes aren’t going anywhere. And honestly, these thoughts probably won’t either. Good luck with your online classes! :)
