This week’s campus celebrity can be spotted all over campus! Symone Salib is so bright, bubbly, and wonderful, it’s impossible not to feel better in her presence. This summer, she is taking all of her positive energy and goodness on the road with her, as she embarks on a four thousand mile trek via bike from the east to west coast, in support of those with cancer.

Below is her statement for Her Campus:

“My name is Symone Salib and I am s senior double major in communication studies and public relations.  I am involved on campus as a resident assistant, orientation leader for PROS, and senior class senator for SGA. I am a student who is passionate about all things related to education, art, and service! My ultimate goal for all things I do in life is to try to make an impact. My intention is to make every situation a little better than it was from when I first got involved.

This upcoming summer I will embark on the adventure of a lifetime! I will be raising $5000 dollars to bike over 4000 miles, from Baltimore to San Diego, to support Young Adults with Cancer for the Ulman Cancer Fund! I will be biking with about 30 other college students from around the country and the money we raise will go to cancer research and to fund a scholarship for young adults with cancer to be able to afford college.

I first found out about 4K for Cancer’s cross-country bike ride from a former resident who participated in it herself. I was so inspired by her story and what she was doing to help others that I had to get involved. I see this bike ride as a metaphor for what people go through with cancer. Fate chooses people to go through the ups and downs of battling this disease with no mercy.  They are pushed to fight for their lives in the hopes that one day they can reach the finish line of saying they are cancer free. I want to ride this 4K for Cancer to choose my own fate of what it is like to be physically pushed to the limit. I am riding in support of every young adult that is faced with this intense battle for their life! I riding to spread awareness about cancer and show people the ways they can get involved to make a difference. I want to actively make a difference in peoples’ lives to show that there are people that want to help and that there is hope.”

Help this wonderful woman reach her goal of $5,000 for the Ulman Cancer Fund!

Good luck, Symone!
