Spring Break: Ballin’ on a Budget

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Rowan chapter.

You know what time it is…..SPRANNNNG BREAKKK!!!!! Yeah, every single college student ever looks forward to this glorious week. It is so nice to have one week away from the daily grind of school, work, responsibilities, you name it. However, it can be frustrating if you are a student who can’t afford to go away on some huge trip like seemingly everyone else does. I personally am one of those students. You definitely shouldn’t let it get you down though. There are plenty of ways to be ballin on a budget this spring break.

Take a hike

I am a lover of the outdoors, so this is right up my alley. Google to find a State Park near you and plan your adventure! While you are planning, make sure you thoroughly look into the park you want to visit so you can figure out trails, how far away it is to you, what might be prohibited, precautions, and determine if it is something suitable for your activity/ability level.

Go to the city

Maybe you want to be outdoors, but aren’t a big nature lover. My recommendation is to go to the biggest city near you! For me, Philadelphia is about 25 minutes away, while New York City is about 2 hours. You can easily find ideas of things to do online, or you can wander around and see what interests you, since there is ALWAYS something to do in the city. Find a cute little cafe (think anything besides chains like Wawa, Starbucks, or Dunkin) to grab some yummy coffee to fuel your wandering.

Go to the beach

Just because you can’t be in a tropical place doesn’t mean you can’t still enjoy the beach in the winter! I actually enjoy the beach a lot during off season because it’s pretty empty and very tranquil. Head to the beach with plenty of layers on, lots of blankets, some snacks, and a good book to read. It is very relaxing to be bundled up on the beach reading a book, napping, or watching the waves without the massive crowds. You might get lucky and find a store open on the boardwalk to grab some good ole fudge or saltwater taffy.
