Poppy and Pine officially opened its doors on May 1st. Replacing Spicy’s Bar, it is a brunch sit down spot with popular breakfast and lunch options. I had written about it opening, so my boyfriend and I went on Sunday to get a firsthand experience to see if the hype surrounding the opening was worth it.
As soon as we walked in, there was such a cute area for seating. That seating was waiting for a table to be opened in the main area. They have a fridge area adjacent to a walk-up area for quick food and drinks. I had made a reservation by calling on the phone, as their website for reservations showed as unavailable. I highly recommend making a reservation, we waited significantly less than other people.
The menu is perfect; just the right number of options and one page. Popular items were sandwiches, salads, eggs, french toast, waffles, pancakes, and typical brunch. I ordered the Farmhouse Bowl without the bacon. My boyfriend got the Chicken and Waffles. I also tried their caramel toffee latte, while my boyfriend got their blueberry mocktail. They have options of 16 or 20 oz that they bring in the cutest jars that are long. They also have to-go cups for your drink. The spacing between bringing out the drink and bringing out the food was perfect, so I highly recommend ordering both at the same time.
I only eat halal meat as a Muslim, and some places accommodate substitutions, and some do not. Poppy and Pine accommodated not putting bacon on my meal and even included some more potatoes it seemed. My food tasted incredible. The cooking on the potatoes, eggs and bell pepper/onion were all perfect. The avocado added a great texture change and made the bowl perfectly filling. My boyfriend tore up his Chicken and Waffles. All the portions were great for 1 large, but they could get away with being 2 small meals. We both loved our drinks, the coffee was perfectly balanced with sweet, salt, and coffee. The blueberry paired nicely with the lavender and lemon.
All in all, we spent around $50, $60 with tip. I definitely think we got our worth with Poppy and Pine, and they have plenty of options for reasonable pricing, such as a French Toast Flight of 3 half pieces of decadent French Toast for $9. If you have not been to Poppy and Pine yet, try to make your reservation as a great Mother’s Day present, or a little treat for finishing finals week and as a delicious close to your semester!
