In March, students protested Rowan University’s on-campus housing waitlist. Discover more about the situation here. An online petition against the waitlist created by a student has reached over 1,100 signatures. Such feedback has brought the University to recognize the significant source of concern students have with this matter and they have “worked to find creative options to increase the availability of housing space.” For instance, on-campus housing option Edgewood Park Apartments’ capacity increased from 4 to 5 students without expansion to the building complex. The waitlist, which previously consisted of over 600 students, has been reduced to fewer than 400 students. Another significant update to the waitlist is expected to occur in early May.
While the University currently strives to satisfy the concerns of students seeking on-campus housing, new concerns have arisen with students who commute. In order to accommodate new housing and academic buildings on campus, several parking lots reserved for commuters are set to be revoked. Possible plans to have commuters shuttled to Rowan’s main campus in Glassboro from the South Jersey Technology Park have also surfaced.
On Tuesday, April 8th, Rowan’s Student Government Association is hosting an Off-Campus Housing Fair. If you are interested in learning more about living off-campus, visit the Student Center Pit at your convenience between 9:00 am to 2:00 pm to speak with local landlords and property managers.
