How to Become the Productive Version of Yourself You’ve Always Wanted

Being stuck in a slump is the worst. Whether it’s bedrotting, lack of motivation, waking up late, or just constantly feeling like you’re not achieving the things everyone else is, it’s not a great feeling. What’s worse is if you’ve always felt like that. Well, good news. 1. You’re not alone. We’ve all felt like this at one point or another. 2. There is nothing wrong with you. Life is hard, and it’s a lot of work. And 3. I have some tips that you might find helpful!

Whatever your goal may be–waking up early, getting work done on time, going to the gym, keeping a clean space, spending less time scrolling, etc., or all of the above, it’s all achievable. And I know you’re tired of hearing this, but the answer is: baby steps.

I know, I know. You’ve heard that before, and it’s easier said than done. But these three habits have changed my life.

1. Keep a clean space

I know it’s hard. I struggled my whole life with staying tidy. What finally worked for me was moving into a dorm, for two reasons.

1. I started fresh. I only brought what I needed. I didn’t bring my closet full of junk and hand-me-downs. Everything didn’t accumulate one by one. When I moved in, every item got a home, and that’s where they stay. So if you need to take everything out of your space and only bring back in what you really want, that might just be your answer. Restart. Reorganize everything. Redecorate. If you love your room and how cute it looks when it’s clean, you won’t want it dirty.

 2. I have a roommate now. Friends are constantly in and out of our space, and that pressures me to keep it clean. Maybe hosting people in your space more often will inspire you, too.

Keeping your space clean will make a world of difference, trust me. Every task feels lighter is your clean space.

2. Surround yourself with good influences

My roommate wakes up early. So now I’ve started waking up earlier, and it’s amazing. And by earlier, I mean like 10 AM, but like I said, baby steps. She also goes to the gym. Her productivity makes me feel like I need to be productive too, and it works. When she’s always ordering healthy choices, it makes me want to order healthy choices. Essentially, what I needed was someone to really hold me accountable. Maybe you need someone like that, too.

3. Start your day right away

One recent change I made was getting out of bed and going right to my vanity. No scrolling on my phone, and as little snoozing as possible. I do my makeup, get dressed, and make my bed as soon as I can. And by the time I’m done, I’m wide awake. Even if you don’t have to be anywhere until the afternoon, start your day anyway. Tackle the day before the day tackles you!

You got this. I believe in you! But nothing changes if you don’t believe in yourself. If nothing else, believe in the power of baby steps. Life is a gift. Don’t take it for granted!
