How I Reset My Life After a Bad Week

We all have those weeks where everything just feels off. Nothing is necessarily terrible, but nothing is really going right either. I get overwhelmed, unmotivated, and honestly just not like myself. When that happens, I’ve learned that instead of trying to fix everything overnight, I just need to reset in small, comforting ways.

One of the first things I try to do is move my body. I’m not always in the mood to go all out at the gym because sometimes that feels like too much. Even just going on a walk helps more than I expect it to. It gives me time to clear my head, listen to music, and just breathe for a second. On days when I have a little more energy, I’ll go to the gym or do a quick workout. Even stretching in my room can make me feel a little less stuck. It’s not about being super productive. It’s just about getting out of that slump.

Another thing that really helps me reset is reading. When my mind feels chaotic, reading gives me a break from my own thoughts. I can sit, slow down, and focus on something else for a while. Even if it’s only for a few minutes, it makes me feel calmer and more grounded, which is exactly what I need after a bad week.

I’ve also realized how important it is for me to talk to people I trust. When I keep everything in, I just end up overthinking it more. But when I sit down with a friend or call someone I’m close to, it helps me process everything. Sometimes I just need to vent, and other times I realize things aren’t as bad as they felt in my head. Either way, being around people who actually listen and understand me makes such a difference.

I’m also a big believer in little self-care resets. For me, that usually starts with taking a long shower. It sounds simple, but it’s one of my favorite ways to pause and reset. I take my time, play music, and let myself relax for a bit. It helps me feel refreshed and a little more put together again.

Another thing I always do after a bad week is a room reset. When my space is messy, I feel messy. So I clean up, reorganize, and make my room feel comfortable again. It doesn’t have to be perfect. I’m definitely not doing a deep clean. Even making my bed and clearing off my desk makes me feel like I have my life a little more together.

At the end of the day, resetting after a bad week isn’t about suddenly becoming super productive or having everything figured out. It’s more about giving myself time to breathe and slowly get back into a better mindset. These small habits help me feel like myself again, even if it takes a little time.

Bad weeks happen, especially in college when everything can feel like a lot all the time. But I’ve learned that I can always reset. Sometimes it just starts with something small, like going for a walk, texting a friend, or taking a long shower and letting that be enough.
