Halloween Costumes I Don’t Want to See this Year

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Rowan chapter.

One of the staples of my Halloween experience is the disgust that I feel while looking at Halloween Costumes. Every single year I look at people’s costumes and wonder why on God’s green earth someone decided to buy or wear that costume. Whether it’s offensive, annoying, or downright stupid here’s a list of costumes that I’ll be side-eyeing this year.

*Disclaimer: This article is (mostly) meant to be a joke! If you decide to wear a costume that doesn’t offend anyone feels free to!*

Anything Tiger King Related

Breaking News! I’m over the Tiger King. I don’t want to see or hear anything about the show unless Carol Baskin admits she killed her husband.

Anything COVID Related

I’m trying to pretend that the pandemic isn’t happening. I don’t need the coronavirus literally knocking at my door.

Anything Election Related

If I see a little Donald Trump knocking at my door I will refuse to give them candy. Sorry kiddo I’m just practicing self-care.

Cultural Appropriation

Do you know what’s so cute? Wearing a costume that doesn’t disrespect the culture of millions of people worldwide. <3

…Actually, Anything that’s in Bad Taste

I recently saw a photo of a group of young women dressed like the homeless. I’m not sure how you don’t acknowledge this is a bad idea. But I’ll be glad to tell you; that’s is a really bad idea.

Any Costume that isn’t Paired with a Mask

This year I’m dressing up as Wonder Woman in the middle of a pandemic. Can a superhero get the coronavirus? Unlikely. Can literally anyone else? Absolutely! Wear. A. Mask.
