Hey, guys! Love is in the air. As Valentine’s Day approaches, it’s important to remember types of love that aren’t romantic. The day before Valentine’s Day has become known as Galentine’s Day after Parks and Rec’s Leslie Knope coined the term. Girls everywhere are celebrating Galentine’s Day with their favorite ladies. Galentine’s Day, which falls on February 13th, is a time for you to celebrate your female friendships. Leslie Knope has an annual breakfast with her friends. Gather all your gal pals and spend some time together.

This year is the first time that I am celebrating Galentine’s Day myself. However, a lot of my friends go to different schools. Instead of getting together and celebrating, I mailed them each Valentine’s cards. You know the ones: inappropriate, made on a computer, written in comic sans. I sent them each about eight of those in a cute little card with an actually heart-felt message. I found the cards and envelope sets at Target for super cheap. The Valentines were even easier. I just found those online and printed them out. Boom! Happy Galentine’s Day!

There are plenty of things you can do with your girls this Galentine’s Day. You could have a wine night with fancy cheeses while watching all your favorite movies together. You could even watch the worst movies you can find on Netflix. Or perhaps have a craft night where you decorate wooden letters with various pictures of you guys or just cute scraps of paper. If you’re more interested in going out for Galentine’s Day, do it! Go dancing or grab a nice dinner. Embrace your gal pals in the best way for you. And don’t forget to remind them how much you appreciate them!

Here’s an example of some letters my roommate and I made!

I am a Writing Arts major at Rowan University. Poetry is my best friend. One day, I hope to be a successful writer for a popular magazine in NYC. My dream is to travel to Paris, London, and Rome to explore and write about my experiences there.
