7 Oils to Keep You Glowing All Semester

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Rowan chapter.

Keeping your skin and hair healthy during these intense winter months is not easy. With the drastic change in temperatures, it is important to change up your skincare routine. Dermatologists always remind us that our skin care highly depends on the environment, so I decided to test out a couple different types of oil and here are my top picks.

Olive Oil

Olive Oil contains vitamins A and E and can be a great natural moisturiser. If you ever run out of makeup remover wipes, olive oil has got your back. It can remove makeup naturally and effectively. It’s also great for strengthening cuticles, doubling as shaving cream, and curing cracks in your heels.

Moroccan Hair Oil

By far, the best hair oil every created. There are other brands, but this specific brand does it best. Their shampoo and conditioner are also amazing and, if you use their website, you can take a quiz to see which products are best suited for your hair. The products are expensive, but you can get them on Amazon as a bundle for cheaper. The kit saved my hair when I lived in a different country for a year. And for those Full House fans, this is Uncle Jesse’s secret to his perfect hair!

Baobab Oil

This African oil is extracted from the Baobab Tree. Baobab can help resolve dry skin and chapped lips. It is also used to strengthen nails by alleviating some of the pain caused by ingrown nails. The great thing about many baobab oil brands, including this one from Target, is that it is cruelty free.

Castor Oil

Pure Castor Oil is very thick and takes patience to remove from your hair, but if you can get past that, its benefits are extraordinary. If you are looking for volume in your hair or to regrow and reshape your brows, this can help you do it. It’s also know to get rid of itchiness, dry skin, and redness. Best of all, castor oil can alleviate muscle soreness and joint pain because it has anti-inflammatory properties.

Almond Oil

High in vitamin E and fatty acids, almond oil has amazing brightening effects on your skin. This oil is a natural bleaching agent and the fatty acids it contains provide nutrients that are known for clearing up the bags under your eyes. Try combining the almond oil with honey get rid of those bags quickly.

Coconut Oil

Applying coconut oil to your scalp can strengthen the roots of your hair and prevent dandruff. It feels best if you warm it up for a few seconds and then rub it into your scalp. Putting it on the ends of your hair can make them softer and prevent the increase of split ends.

Fur Oil

The golden globe of oil! Fur Oil was made by Laura Schubert who says the goal of fur oil is “to dismantle the taboo and shame we have about our bodies.” It’s great for getting rid of ingrown hairs and softening stubble. Emma Watson spoke about fur oil saying, “I’ll use that anywhere from the ends of my hair to my eyebrows to my pubic hair. It’s an amazing all-purpose product.”
