School

  • Why did you choose your major?

Originally majored in Elementary Education, but over time really got interested in aspects outside of the classroom. How having different programs helps students so much in the long run with their confidence and how much it impacts them even when they leave school.

What are your plans after graduation?

I graduate in December, so I’m in the process of applying for jobs, which can be stressful in itself. The plan is to work for a bit, save some money then go to grad school either in Higher Education-Student Affairs or Social Entrepreneurship and Change.

Why did you choose RU?

The diversity and environment is what really drew me to the school. Coming from a high school that was also diverse, I didn’t want to go to a school where that was lacking and learning about different cultures and ethnicities is so interesting. It didn’t hurt, that it’s also in the heart of the city with so much going around only walking distance and the energy, it’s amazing!

What is your favorite thing about Roosevelt?

The diversity. Like I said above, it’s amazing what you can learn when you just ask questions about someone’s culture and just listen.

Any campus involvement?

Currently a Peer Mentor in the Academic Success Center

Alpha Gamma Delta Alum

Former ACP 101 Peer Instructor

This summer I was a Peer Mentor for the First Wave Summer Bridge Program

What has been your favorite RU event?

Any events during my time in Alpha Gamma Delta, as well as Relay For Life coming together for a cause that has impacted us all in one way or another was a great experience.

Social Causes

What social cause matters most to you?

Black Lives Matter and ending police brutality is important to me. If you have friends of different backgrounds, especially African American even if you don’t but are human, this should affect you just as it affects them. A life is a life and it shouldn’t be taken away from anyone. Also, the refugee crisis is really important to me, I think everyone should have a chance to start a new life and pursue their dreams without living in fear. Coming from a family of immigrants from the Middle East, I get it.

Are you a feminist?

Yes. I believe that woman should have all the rights and opportunities men have in this country. Especially, women of minority with so many stereotypes and stigmas attached, I feel like this is something that is needed and most people don’t see the issues that are occurring.

What causes are important to you for the upcoming Presidential election?

Education, Health, Environment, and Justice and Equality

Style

How would you describe your personal style?

I wouldn’t say there was one word to describe my personal style. Most days, it’s how I’m feeling that day whether that’s; boho, girlie with florals and lace, soft grunge or just basic with a couple of accessories. I do try to change my style during the different seasons, what I want to put out there.

What are your favorite stores and brands?

Urban Outfitters, Topshop, Forever 21 (sometimes that’s a hit and miss), and Aldo

What’s your favorite item in your closet?

Black, asymmetrical leather jacket from Urban Outfitters. It goes with everything, my sister and I fight over it constantly! A good leather jacket is something that should be in everyone’s closet!

What do you think makes you stand out?

I don’t know lol my personality-I enjoy laughing, being sarcastic, and cracking jokes. Maybe my ethnicity, nobody really knows or has heard of an Assyrian before so that’s pretty different.
