I LOVE Valentine’s Day and not just because I’m in a relationship. I think this holiday is a super fun time to remind the people you love just how much you love them. Whether you’re in a relationship or not, I know you have someone in your life who you love, so don’t write this holiday off this year! Here are some suggestions for how to celebrate platonic love this Valentine’s Day:

Growing up, I made Valentine’s Day a big deal in my house! I would make my parents and sisters participate in a Secret Valentine , which much like Secret Santa, you randomly drew someone’s name and had to get them a little gift. You can bake them a treat, buy them a little trinket, the only rule is you have to hand make the card! I think this would be so fun to do with a group of friends, your club, or sorority.

The Writer’s Block Bookstore on Park Avenue offers a blind date with a book, which is essentially a book wrapped up so you cannot see what’s inside and you’re given only basic descriptors about the story like genre and tropes. This would be such a cute activity to do with friends followed by brunch at Briarpatch next door! You could even DIY this blind date and each wrap up a favorite book to exchange.

AJ Chocolate House, also on Park Avenue, is perhaps the most fitting location you could possibly pick for a Valentine’s celebration. My friends and I visited earlier this month for our own Galentine’s celebration and were overwhelmed by all of the chocolate choices. It was like walking into Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory. The interior is really fancy, too, which makes a great backdrop for Instagram photos!

Café Coqui recently popped up in my Instagram feed and this Orlando coffee shop is offering the cutest Valentine’s themed coffee flight! While I haven’t had the chance to go here yet, it’s definitely on my to-do list as a coffee lover and a Valentine’s Day lover! This would make for a super cute coffee date with friends or even a productive study date.

Even if you’re a grade A Valentine’s Day hater, I hope you take some time this Valentine’s Day to reflect on your relationships and let your friends know how much you love them, whether it’s by celebrating with one of these suggestions or even sending a simple text. Happy Valentine’s Day to all and to all a good night!

She enjoys writing about anything and everything, though her pieces often focus on celebrities and pop culture or mental health and wellbeing. Sam is currently a junior at Rollins College in Winter Park, FL, majoring in Psychology with a minor in Sociology, and she is from Langhorne, Pennsylvania. After earning her Bachelor's degree, she plans to pursue a PhD in School Psychology. Beyond Her Campus, she is involved in many organizations on campus that focus on supporting the campus community, such as the Wellness Ambassadors, where she works in Health Promotions to promote the Nine Dimensions of Wellness, and the Student Support Foundation, operating the campus food pantry and providing emergency grants to students, faculty, and staff in need. In her free time, Sam enjoys reading, going to Barre class, finding new things to do in and around the Orlando area, especially if there is rumored to be good food, and Facetiming her dog Dexter. She is a major fan of both Taylor Swift and Phoebe Bridgers (she even got it tattooed to prove it) and loves going to concerts, and of course dressing up for them.
