After the hell we call finals week comes to a close (even though the end of this semester and the beginning of break still seem so far away), it will be time for us to start thinking about how we will spend our days during the holiday season. Sure, who can forget about reuniting with family, beloved pets, and friends from home? I, for one, cannot wait to see my mom, hang out with my high school besties, and visit my favorite brunch/ dining spots. But amid the frenzy of the holiday season with all of the family gatherings, festive parties, holiday baking, movie marathons, and gift shopping that come along with it, there are those in-between moments where we find ourselves trying to catch a breath. Winter Break is not only a time for fun-filled activites with friends and family, but it is also a time for resting and re-charging.
During the school year and especially with exams coming up, I have sometimes struggled with finding enough time to read the books that I want to read – this means books that are not related to school subjects. However, once the burden of finals is lifted off my shoulders, I dive straight into the first book on my reading list. Reading books that you find interesting and pleasurable can be one of the most relaxing activities. When the cold weather outside and the comfort of your bed or couch seem to drag you back indoors, let them. Then, let your eyes rest from looking at a screen so often. Take a break before your next outing – curl up with a nice book and a cup of hot chocolate to complete your you time.
Now, it becomes a question of choice – choosing the books to put on your winter reading list. There are thousands of books in existence so picking which ones to read is easier said than done. Should you go with a best-seller, the one with the cute cover, or the one that is going to be a book-to-movie adaptation (so you can tell people you read the book first…maybe)? Believe me, I understand the struggle. But rest assured, I have narrowed down my top book recommendations to help you with your reading list this winter! Here are some of my favorite books listed according to their genre.
