The U of R Alpine Ski Team
The U of R Women’s Alpine Ski Team is having a tremendous
season, and just recently broke into the national rankings. Currently, the
team is ranked 10th in the nation among Collegiate Ski Teams involved in
the Unites States Collegiate Skiing Association. They are part of the
Mideast conference, comprised of alpine teams from colleges all over New
York State including Syracuse, Cornell, Ithaca College, Buffalo, Skidmore,
and Colgate. The team takes part in five conference races at beginning of
the second semester of school. They were ranked first in the conference
heading into their race last weekend at Greek Peak, hosted by
Cornell. The weekend of February 15th is the final race of the regular
season. After that, them team will participate in a regional competition,
where the top 6 female and male teams in the region qualify. That
competition will be held at Bristol Mountain in Canandaigua. Following
regionals, the top 2 female and male teams advance to the National
Championships, held in Sun Valley, Idaho, March 5th-9th. The women’s
team made nationals last year and hope to return again this year.
